message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading books I own too! I've read a few on your list & oddly enough I plan on reading others this year!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I'm aiming to read 100 books this year as well but keeping my list in a notebook in my bedroom. I've been keeping the reading log for 5 years now. The most I've read in a year before was 88.

message 5: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) My goal is 100 this year! I made a goodreads bookshelf to keep track.

message 6: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I made good progress in January, 12 books. February isn't going so well, but I had a run of 4 books that I really didn't like almost in a row (The Andromeda Strain, The Reader, The King of Torts and Beloved). Hopefully, I can pick up the pace for the rest of the month! :)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

12 books in January is awesome. That's like 3 books a week.

to Hit 100 you only need to read 2 books a week.

Fiona I know you can hit 100 books.

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well, really I'm trying to get them read early. I wanna buy new books! Its been 46 days and I'm going through withdrawals! I'm hoping to be done by late September/early October, but earlier would be great!

message 9: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Since I'm trying to be strict, I have to do something to make it easier on myself! ;)

message 10: by Jensownzoo (new)

Jensownzoo | 338 comments I joined the 50 books a year group, but recently thought I am going to exceed that tremendously. A hundred sounds more of a stretch for me. Here's what I've got so far:

2. Dingo by Charles de Lint
3. An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris
4. Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez
5. Holes by Louis Sachar
6. At Large and At Small: Familiar Essays by Anne Fadiman
7. Ultimate X-Men Vol. 18: Apocalypse
8. The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint
9. Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy (re-read)
10. Bloodring by Faith Hunter
11. Moving Targets and Other Stories of Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey et al.
12. Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office by Jen Lancaster
13. Such a Pretty Fat One Narcissist's Quest to Discover if Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, or Why Pie is Not the Answer by Jen Lancaster
14. How Starbucks Saved My Life A Son of Privilege Learns to Live Like Everyone Else by Michael Gates Gill
15. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
16. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist
17. Real Murders by Charlaine Harris
18. Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand by Carrie Vaughn
19. Teany Book Stories, Food, Romance, Cartoons and, of Course, Tea (this book is less than half recipes, so I am counting it although I don't usually count cookbooks)
20. Unshapely Things by Mark Del Franco
21. Unquiet Dreams by Mark Del Franco
22. Unfallen Dead by Mark Del Franco
23. The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Laura (apenandzen) Wow, Jensownzoo, you're almost 1/4 of the way there already! Maybe you should go for 150 or even 200!

I'm trying to read 100 this year too, which is one of the reasons I don't want to read the whole Outlander series. They are all so long, and Outlander took me a whole week to read, so it set me back.

Here's what I've read so far.

1. Anne of Green Gables
2. Watership Down
3. Chasing Windmills
4. A Little Princess
5. The Secret Garden
6. Sugar Daddy
7. 84 Charing Cross Road
8. The Duchess of Bloomsbury St.
9. We are all Welcome Here
10. I am the Messenger
11. Outlander
12. Whiskey Sour

I'm also keeping track of pages - that's 3,806 so far.

It's amazing how much reading you can do when you focus on it, especially when you include audiobooks. For me, listening in the middle of the night when I can't fall back to sleep has really taken alot of the stress out of not sleeping.

Good luck to all of us!!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I had joined the 50 books a year group then later realized it was too easy. So I joined 75 books a year and the 100+ books a year groups. Then I deleted both posts of my books read so far and left the groups. They don't really chat there and I didn't need a list of my books online since I keep them in a notebook. It's enough for me to keep my handwritten logbook and update the books status to read in my shelves here on goodreads. I'm up to 16 for the year so far with like 7 on the go.

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) OMG Allison I looked at your 2009 list. 33?? Wow! And I think I saw all of the Outlander books in your list. How do you do it??

message 14: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Good for you Allison!

Laura, I feel you on the setbacks... Beloved should have taken me about a day to read, but it took me four times as long because I just couldn't stand to pick it up again. I seriously think that is my least favorite book ever.

message 15: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yeah, and then what's worse is you are less likely to put a book down when you're not really liking it, cuz you spent all that time reading and you want to read 2 books a week still!

I'm having that problem now with Cat's Eye (Atwood). I like it, but it's just not moving fast enough for me. It's like, okay, you had a crummy childhood, get to the punchline already!

message 16: by Leah (new)

Leah (ling_ling) | 226 comments I like the idea of this I always set my goals high because there are so many good books I want to read! I'm going to go in on this one I have a list on my personal computer at home but off the top of my head I think I've read.. mmm I think I'm on my 11th book so far.. Most of them I've read in the last 2 weeks..haha

message 17: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I don't know what it is...I just read really fast once I get into a book...and since the new year, I have been so determined to read whenever I get a chance just because I have so many unread books lying around.

message 18: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Becky has the best motivation though :-) reading so she can buy more.

Laura, you've read a ton this year too! I wouldn't worry about reading all the Outlander you want...they all go by super fast. Also-I noticed you read Anne of Green Gables, did you love it? It is probably my favorite book ever...you should look into the rest of that series!

message 19: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I am SO EXCITED that you are going to read the rest of the series! She stays 100% captivating through the whole thing. I have seen the TV series, and I do like it (even though the book lover in me cringes that it is so NOT true to the story). One of the reason I love it is that both Anne and Gilbert actually look almost exactly like I pictured in my head. How often does THAT happen?

I'll be interested to see how you enjoy the rest of the books, because I don't know that many people that have read them all.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Heather wrote: "Wow! I really admire you all for setting such amazing reading goals! I don't have much success trying to do that for myself. Reading is my escape, my entertainment, and a way for me to relax and unwind. When I get into the mindset of trying to read as many books as I can, as quickly as I can, I tend to lose some of the enjoyment of the whole reading experience. I do better just reading at whatever pace I feel like, and not trying to motor through as many books as I possibly can just for the sake of doing it. I am thrilled though for those of you who can do that and still fully enjoy each book you read. That's awesome! Good luck to you all in meeting your goals this year!
..."

My goal was a loose new year's resolution. I don't actually work at having to read 2 books a year. I just started a log book one summer for the adult summer reading program at the library and kept the log book going. I'd add a book when I finished one and was curious to see how many there were at the end of the year. Last year I read 83, almost beating my record year of 88. I'd love to break a 100, but don't know if I will or not. Joining in some reading challenges on GR might help me break it this year. But generally, I just read what I want, when I want and just write it down when done. I'm just basing my resolution close to last year's total.

message 21: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments My goal is to just read more books than I read last year (57.) So If I get to 58, I will be happy.

Here's my list as it stands right now:
1. The Other Boleyn Girl
2. The Wednesday Sisters
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
4. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
5. The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society
6. Coraline
7. Love in the Time of Cholera

message 22: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) The story totally just melts my bones. And, of course, I frequently want to bang Anne over the head with a cast iron skillet.

message 23: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I have a lot of longish classics to read (Roots, The Woman in White, Bleak House, Emma, etc), so I am hoping that I can keep up the pace in order to get somewhere near the remaining 85 books I need to read. But I'd be happy with just reading as many as I can.

I do fully enjoy the stories (as long as they are enjoyable!). I don't rush the reading of them, really, I just move from one to the next quickly!

message 24: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) The Woman in White---SO good. One of my favorite books ever.

I really want to read Bleak House soon, I've been hearing a lot of good things about it lately.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I'm also trying to read 100 books this year. I read 88 last year, but now that I'm working and starting school soon, it'll be a bit difficult. So far I've read:

1. Little Children
2. The Prenup
3. Joy School
4. Sarah's Key
5. The Graveyard Book
6. The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher
7. The Harrowing
8. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
9. True Stories of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
10. Heartsick
11. Change Me Into Zeus's Daughter
12. Loyalty's Web
13. Keeping the Moon

message 26: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Joanna, you don't really have to plan ahead. Just read the books and post 'em as you read 'em! I jump around from genre to genre a lot! The ones you see listed in my post (way down there somewhere... busy thread!) are books I read for the Winter Challenge... I'll be really genre-hopping again soon! :)

message 27: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I'm currently doing the 75 book challenge here on GR. I chose 75 because it allows me to have some long reads and it seemed more doable for me. This is what I have so far:

1. A Great and Terrible Beauty
2. Rebel's Angels
3. The Sweet Far Thing
4. Remember Me?
5. Lightning Thief
6. Outlander
7. Current Read: Dragonfly in Amber

First and last are my favorites too! Maybe we've talked about this before...haha...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I really enjoyed Bleak House, Allison. I think it is my favorite Dickens - just ahead of Dombey and Son.

message 30: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I tried reading Anne of Green Gables when I was a kid, and I just couldn't get into it. I think that's a book I will return to one day as an adult and really love.

Naw. Right now is my prime reading time. Once spring gets here I garden and work on the house and do other warmer weather things, so reading slows way down.

Hey, I could set up a new folder and you guys could create your own 100 books thread and track your status for the year without having to scroll around in here to find it!

What do you think?
Everyone could make their own personal threads....
