I'd recommend The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. For a romantic novel I'd recommend The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

I recommend Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Winner of the man booker in 2002 and is converted into a movie to be released in December.

Well, I don't know what kind of books you are willing to begin with, but I could give you a couple off the top of my head:

- Room, by Emma Donoghue (it's simply amazing)
- Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen (the best book I've ever read)
