What are you reading?
the last book I read was hit list, so i'm only missing two books. Apparently after book 8, it was all downhill for me. I like books 2-5 the best.
i'v actually been able to fit in a few books l8ly even with work and school, and good they have been absolutely fantastic!! I highly recommend most of them!!
Zeenat wrote: "the last book I read was hit list, so i'm only missing two books. Apparently after book 8, it was all downhill for me. I guess that's because I accidentally started the series on book 15, which means I was expecting the romance and was disappointed when it wasn't as present initially. However, I will say that up until Affliction I wasn't happy with the books that came after Harlequin because there was so much sex there was no plot.
I'm almost done with
and only have the short novella at the end to read. I'm excited and anxious to read it, since it came after Changes and that was such a ridiculously tense book.
@ zeenat:If that is the one that is through Thomas's POV I love that story. Otherwise, forget I said anything. ;P

I think that I have lost count as to how many times I have read this series … 8 more days!
yes it's from thomas' pov. He has a great voice. I may like it even better than Harry's... well, no never mind.
@zeenat:I love Thomas's voice and I love Harry's too. There is something I like in both for different reasons. Butcher is so awesome at creating characters ... you can tell who is who for the most part. I wonder if I made a point....

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews
Man … I so love the scene at the end. I still do mental squees when I read it.
I only started keeping records of the books I read Jan of ’11 and if I finish the series this time will make it the third time I have read it since Jan of ’11…. No clue how many times before that though….
Next is Magic Strikes and that is like one of my favorite books in the whole series.
Finished:Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews
My problem with these books (as with most of my favorite books) I can never stop reading them once I start.
Funny thing though … there sure is a lot of naked time and bare footedness going on. I never really think about that and shape shifters in books yanno? It’s so fun when you have a light bulb moment out of the blue about a book you have read a million times already. See! The fun stuff you pick up when reading a book over and over.
Zeenat wrote: "the last book I read was hit list, so i'm only missing two books. Apparently after book 8, it was all downhill for me. I like books 2-5 the best."We had Anita Blake discussion and I missed it :(
I am caught up n the books. Hit List was promising since there was less sex, but the later two books have not been as good.
@Claire - I had heard that there was a lot of romance/sex in the later books before I started the series, so I wasn't surprised. I only disliked it when the sex overtook the plot. I still kind of like the series.
@Llaph - Affliction is decent. Better than the last one but not as good as Hit List. Still Hit List did have an anti climatic ending. I also loved Burnt Offerings. The only one of the initial books that I really did not like was Blue Moon - I have always hated Richard.
Llaph wrote: "See! The fun stuff you pick up when reading a book over and over."
So very true :)
I started reading the Theft of Swords. Its turning out to be really good and I am already through book 1.
Just read
. Love Owen. Totally renewed himself in my eyes.Back to reading
and rereading the Greywalker series, and am on
right now.
I think part of hte reason why I stopped liking the books is because of Richard. I hate what she did to his character. HATE IT.
So I'm about halfway through
. So far, I'm just interested enough to keep going but it's reallyyyy slow.@Zeenat Does the book pickup? Are the rest of the Cal Leandros books this slow?
I'm having a hard time trying to tell if this is supposed to be YA or a regular adult novel. I thought adult, until I realized Cal is 19 and he's interested in a 17 year old.
@Claire:For me, it picks up. The other books in the series are iffy, I really liked Road Kill and Slashback wasn't too bad imo.
@Zeenat:
I am in agreement there ... so much agreement. It has probably been said before, but what about if Richard is a representation of her ex husband and the smashing off her old beliefs and morals? Or something ... I usually never pick at books like that. :x He started off as like the nice nice guy ... then goes psycho....

Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews
I still hate Jennifer, she is such a dumbass. I guess it is too much to hope that she goes on the trip in Magic Rises and is the “beloved” character that eats it?
@Llaph I think the only reason I keep reading is because I have a crush on Niko. I'm also giving it a chance because it's the first book in a series and those tend to be weak. I don't know, I just feel like most of what I read could have been condensed into a few chapters rather than half a book. It's all angst and know action.About Richard: In LKH's blog about Affliction she said she fully intended to have Anita marry Richard when she brought him onstage. So I really have no idea what happened. Then again, he was never comfortable with being a shifter and he hated vamps. So to suddenly be sharing "his" woman with a bunch of shifters and vampires and have to be around them all the time probably pushed some buttons. Plus he wasn't comfortable being intimate with the men. He's mentioned a few times in Affliction but idk when we'll see him again.
About the cal and niko books--that series is very unpredictable for me. Sometimes I really like the books, and other times I don't know why I keep reading. It's not YA, although Cal acts immature a lot of the times. There are some books I reallllly liked, like Roadkill. Richard: I have a feeling he was based on her first husband or something, and after the divorce and her new "explorations" he became the bad guy or something. It completely makes sense to me. I bet LKH sees a lot of herself in Anita... I just have a feeling she does. lol
Cal also lost 2 years when the alp took him. The difference between the two brothers ... lol talk about a difference. He does some growing up in the later books, the series has some hits and misses with me. I still like it though and I stuck it out.I want to xsay it is like making myself read C.E. Murphy's urban shaman seris ...man I had to make myself finish the first few books and the last 2 books were pretty awesome to me.
re: Richard
That is pretty much what I thought. He was the "perfect" guy school teacher, manners, no sex before marriage (lol she so blew that one) , and well, a "boy scout". I think it was some good therapy for her, with the stuff she had to deal with around that time. I rather wish Richard didn't turn into a total bi-polar psycho off his meds though.
I don't care if it was the 90s those sweaters were STUPID and so not sexy. Her idea of fashion makes me do a wtf sometimes. Shoes with no socks???
I just finished my 13th book this month,
Two Weeks' Notice (Revivalist #2) by Rachel Caine. I just started Chapter 62
A Dance With Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5) by George R.R. Martin
Finished
last night. Some of my new favorite characters died. In bad ways, too. At least some of them are still around.Reading
now. I wonder if it'll be as depressing and bloody as the last one.

Man … 7 more days.
Reading Small Town Witch by Kristen S Walker.Could not finish Her Mad Hatter...I read the first two
stories and was starting the third and it sounded like the other two.
I'll come back to it eventually when I don't have anything to read.
@Zeenat That doesn't sound particularly encouraging to me...but I am sort of enjoying it so I know I'll definitely finish the first one.
I just finished my 14th book this month,

Claire wrote: "@Zeenat That doesn't sound particularly encouraging to me...but I am sort of enjoying it so I know I'll definitely finish the first one."I love the Cal & Niko Leandros series. It is slow in the start but the later books really pick up. Roadkill was awesome. The books do tend to have a slower pace sometimes but there is really great character development - especially when it comes to Cal.
It took me a while to pick it up again after the first two books - but then I ended up reading all the books that were out.
Her other two series - Korsack Brothers and Trickster are also really good. Trickster is in the same universe as the Leandros.
@Arushi I agree with you completely. I do think that the last few books slipped a little on plot but Affliction picked it back up.
Finished:Queen of Jastain by Kary Rader
I wasn’t sure that I would like this book, (the heroine is an annoying, spoiled bitch in the beginning but she gets over it … guess having to pee in the woods will help to toughen a person up) I ended up liking the book when I got finished with it.
I'm still reading
in print and on Kindle I'm reading
.It's sort of a PNR but a lot better than I expected. I say sort of because I'm about 25% in but there isn't really any romance. The female lead acknowledges how attractive the men are and the men definitely like her but it's secondary to her adjustment to the world.
Finished:On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews
There are a ton of good quotes in IA books, but this one always makes me laugh.
"Yes. I'm too mad to punish you right now. We'll talk about it when we get home. Go brush your teeth, comb your hair, put on dry clothes, and get the guns. We're going to Wal-Mart."
teeheee
You can actually do that here in Texas ....
I just finished my 15th book this month,
Back from the Undead (The Bloodhound Files, #5) by D.D. Barant. My next book is
Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves, #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I just finished my 16th book this month,
Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves, #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. My next book is
Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed #10) by Lara Adrian
@diane:I remember reading that series, I think I stopped at The Last of the Demon Slayers though. It got too silly for me.... I liked the books for the most part, I guess I was in the mood for silly at the time.

Man I love William and Cerise.
I love William, Llaph. Cerise, too. But William had me cracking up. I'd not expected him to have a sense of a humor, but I loved it.Just finished
and man do my eyes hurt because I spent about the last 12% of the book crying like a little bitch. Gods! So many dead characters! But, some surprises yet, I think (and hope). They had victory, but at such a cost! And the overall picture is not yet done. Loved, loved this installment.I suppose that I'll go on to
since I can't get the 4th Malazan book just yet.
Finished
and I liked it a lot. I enjoyed the characters and their world, and the ending made me smile. It was definitely a good read to carry me through a slow work day.I also finished
and was surprised by how much I liked it. The characters (read: Niko) kept me interested until the action really picked up. Once the drama started toward the end of the book I couldn't put it down and read straight through to the finish. I definitely would have preferred more action at the beginning though; all the waiting around for something to happen made me impatient. But, I liked it enough to continue on to
which I finished yesterday afternoon. It definitely moved more quickly than the first book which I appreciated.
I finally finished
but this book just wasn't for me. :( I couldn't get into it and I actually struggled a little to finish it.I now have to finish up the other book I'm reading
and I'll be ready for Kate #6. This Daniel Abraham series is interesting. It started very slowly and I wasn't quite certain about the first book, but there's something really compelling and immersive about it. I'll definitely be reading the final two books in the series.

Oh! I'm wounded! =p Ah well.
Sorry Claire, it just rubbed me the wrong way and I kept putting it down to read something else. Never mind. :(
It's okay! There are books you guys love that I disliked intensely. I just have a big time crush on Mark Batten =p

Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding
I am still waiting to get Affliction to read. I have read that whole series so many times … I don’t think I would miss much now since the main arc got finished. Claire is right about there not being much happening in the last few books.
Burnt Offerings is one of my favorites of that series too … I think it is all of the ass kicking that she does in it. :x
I am still tempted to read the series again; the only thing stopping me is that I am impatient. I got spoiled listening to the audio versions that I got and it takes forever to transfer them over to my reader so I am putting it off atm.
