Well I don't hold JM to the old world/country standards anyway considering he was never there, and since he doesn't really recall that way of life via Darius, it's a moot point. but it goes back to the primal thing. JM grew up in the new world, and when he found the brotherhood he was adopted into their world, but he's only 3 years out of his transition, though he too, his exuding the calling card of those primal instincts. So it's definitely ingrained into the DNA of their species when it comes to certain things concerning their mates & way of life.
With JM & Xhex they're both right & wrong. She knew what type of male she was getting involved with, she's had over 300+ years of personal experience & knowledge through others' experiences as well. She knows these males.
JM also knew the type of female he was getting involved with, he even admitted on many occasions that that was one of the reasons why he was attracted to her. So they both are wrong for not finding a middle ground before things got out of hand. but Xhex too, can't just de-validate the Bonded Male emotions, they aren't logical, but they are there & are dominant when it comes to their females.
Now, I don't agree either, that just cos Xhex is a "Tom Boy" that she too can't have a special "girly" moment. It was her wedding day for crying out loud. Every woman deserves to feel like a princess on their big day....
And yeah when ur in a relationship you never expect ur partner not to back you up.. It doesn't feel good when ur partner drops the ball in that respect. But on the flip side of that coin, Xhex is ALWAYS the one demanding that she get this, or she gets that, & JM is ALWAYS the one relenting at the end of the day, and backing off, giving her what she wants for the sake & greater good of their relationship. I never see her compromise or doing the same for him. And that's what bothers me about her & her dealings with JM. From the very beginning of their relationship, she's the one running, pushing away, & demanding something or another. Rarely is she the one taking a hit for the sake of them. Everything is always a fight with her. They can never reach a common ground without always having to have some big ass battle before hand. She definitely takes more than she gives. She demands that you see her & treat her as ur equal in all things, and there's nothing wrong with that. But she has no problem NOT returning the same courtesy to her mate & that's a problem... So sister D, I think u got ur scales balanced with Xhex, concerning the primal thing, & men wants vs womens' wants and whose wants are more important, when it comes to PNR. *giggles*
JM has been my baby since he came on the scene in book 2. So I am very protective of him. I have just never felt 100% that Xhex is the right mate for him or even worthy in some instances. *shrugs*
But the chick ur talking to in the other thread, the logic she is using to make her point is.. pretty comical :D

But here is something too. Do you think it only seems like Xhex always wants her way so much because she is the one 'speaking' her points the loudest most times? And also cause we have more of JM's backstory than her own? I mean we barely got anything on her (kind of only reason I somewhat and piqued in the interest department where Mhurder is concerned as they knew each other then). So I think there is far more there than she was just given to a nice family that didn't mind having a half Sympath baby. And for sure she has connections to the wayward vamps too. From Mhurder to Assail. So more than meets the eye.
And I knew you would see it my way, mhuahahahaha, lol.

And yeah over 300 years and her being tight with Rehv and the Shadows, some kind of history with Assail, she's had alot of traumatic things we haven't seen happen to her And if course Murhder and their much needed yet unfinished closure. So yeah there is lots we don't know about her past but I don't see Ward really expounding on those things much. Just mainly the one concerning her And Murhder to be used as a plot device since he's FINALLY coming back.

Man out of the 99 plots she has going at once you would think she would. But hey just never know. I just hope he isn't around to tap some NY booty though.

It's just a combination of all the things that led up to their fight in Lover Reborn... How she has always related to JM & pushed him away. Like the from the very beginning, after knowing for awhile they were both feelin each other, when they finally hooked up in Rehv's book, I hated how she shut him down after she had sex with him the 1st time. Knowing just how much he was feelin her, and she him. She was reading his emotions let alone his actions, and I didn't appreciate how she just was so cold to him immediately after screwing him. Then she got mad when he was cold to her & was screwin everybody, basically cos of what she did to him, & him making it worse thinkin he could screw & drink her out of his system.Plus he was going through his demons concerning he & Tohr & Wellsie. So it was alot driving him to react that way, but her action, is what push him over that edge.
The back & forth with them. I hated, which was always initiated by her, cos he was always clear how he felt about her... Then we're led into their book. Obviously they have some issues to get through, and I think they worked them out for the most part. They hit a big snag with Lash though, cos JM wanted his revenge on him for not only what he did to Xhex but what he did to him also. But in the end he relented & allowed Xhex, heck even helping her to get her revenge on Lash. As i felt he should have
Throughout their book they had to go through JM's discomfort with her fighting etc.. but they worked it out.. So when Lover Reborn comes, literally a month or so after their mated, she's moving out cos of them fighting about her fighting.
And granted what set JM off was the fact that he saw his mate get injured while she was fighting and she almost got seriously hurt, so that's what sparked JM greatest fear about her fighting in the first place. You got the impression in their book that he was never gonna be completely cool with her fighting (what bonded male would be?) but he understood & it was something he was just gonna have to deal with and accept. But in Tohr's book when he actually witnessed her getting hurt, that set off that Bonded Male madness & there you go. And then Xhex moves out. For a whole freakin year! U just got freakin mated & ur jumpin ship already? I understand ur pissed but come on, a whole year? And once again while she's running and refusing to work it out, JM is the one who is workin at trying to put their relationship back to rights. He was the one in her face, coming to her for a whole year, trying to figure out how to make things right with her, for them. He felt bad about his place in their issue, but he still couldn't help how he felt but Once again, he's the one workin to rectify it. And all she's doing is staying away, demanding her terms. I can't stand that. Cos ever since I've met Xhex her default is always to run. A strong female (that she wants & demands to be seen as) that does NOT make.
So it's in how she relates/handles her relationship issues, just a combination over the course of these books, with her & JM that paints her in that light for me. More often than not it's a fight with her. That's why in most instances I don't think she's worthy of JM. Cos given her track record, she tends to not fight for what truly matters when it comes to the big picture. She runs. She demands to be recognized as strong & capable & an equal, but she does this in a way that if she were with a weaker male, it would seriously emasculate him.
She says she wants things 50/50, but it's more like 80/20 in the give & compromise department, when it comes to who gives & compromises the most. And it's always JM.

So in order to survive all that, I think she donned her version of leathers and shit kickers to protect herself and most especially her heart. So no doubt she had to butch up and even be her own version of the man. To which that is why I guess even I was reading her as having more of a masculine energy and would prefer a lesbian relationship to being with a man. As the men had likely did her vastly wrong in her past.
So in saying all that. Is it fair that JM has to take the flack for what happened in her past? No. Or after she got hurt with Lash and even witnessed her get hurt fighting in the field? Another no. But at the same time I feel too that Xhex was NEVER going to be the most normalest shellan there was. And yea just cause she had 300 years of knowing how males of the vamp species acted. Does not mean everyone agrees with it either. And at the same time doesn't mean that just because she got mated, she was going to stop being the type of defensive individual that still feels like she has her own best interest at heart more so than any one else. Even her mate. Cause I think to her and even to me on some level it seems like JM is about nothing but the primal and want to put her on a shelf. When Xhex is a woman that has fell off that shelf eons ago. And the only way to handle things is to physically fight it out if the threat comes from without her circle. And when it comes from within, she books because no doubt she knows that she can't trust someone to hear her out or have her back. So what is the point of sticking around?

I do tend to forget this. Cos this world, for some reason, makes me forget at times that these are not real people. LOL Sometimes I do have to catch myself & say "Yes this is a realistic scenario, but Nhya, these people aren't real! The world is not real"
But that just shows that it's good writing if I can not only forget that, but also feel every emotion across the spectrum concerning these characters. So this is why I love & hate the series. I love that its not easy or cookie cutter fantasy. Even though it's fantasy all of these characters feel real. Their circumstances feel real. Whether I like the direction they go or not, it doesn't feel fake to me.
But I still will never be completely happy with Xhex & JM as a couple. If I could, I'd jump into this world and try to break them up. LOL The same with V & Jane.
Do you think if I batted my lashes at V, he'd notice? If he noticed, I'd run cos he scares the ever lovin crap outta me.

Mhmm, and a sign that you are a true fan. I will admit I'm admittedly in LIKE with Ward's work. I, too, love the flawed and not quite so cookie cutter characters. It's just that having done a lot of personal life growing and doing more self reflection. I tend to see characters in a new light than I once did and try and see more than the surface front. Because to be quite frank with ya, I think when it comes to stories like this. That even written for entertainment purposes. So many readers still judge a book by it's cover so to speak. Not to say there is anything wrong with that. Just it's a go to reaction that sometimes I don't even think we realize that we do any more. Especially when our pleasure/enjoyment center buttons aren't always being hit when introduced to a particular character or situation.
And you don't have to be. I think Ward along knew who her strong couples were going to be and who her weaker ones were going to be. As I think you can kind of tell in the writing. Meaning when you see a couple fighting more evenly or when there are just as many deets about them given. So there is a level playing field. But for weaker characters she doesn't even seem to make too much of an effort at times. Like maybe enough to say they are decent enough to get the job done. But not as great of quality as someone stronger.
As for you and V? Yea, just be thankful he probably wouldn't notice lol. Although where V is concerned pre-Jane, if you aren't on his preapproved list of willing submissives that will meet him at the whormodore then it's likely a safe bet you might not be selling what he is looking for.

LMBO! U are so right.. I'm way too vocal about my likes/dislikes & what I want, to be a true, hardcore submissive anyway ;D
But V would smell the fear on me and be like "Little girl, go home"

I love them & their story too. Their book & Novella still remains to be my #1 books in t..."
Yeah but I think the final result was the best I just wish there was another book with them they are really my fav*

post a new topic
"When Xhex teamed up with JM she knew what she was getting into: Males who like to look after their females according to the Old Ways and it has been working for them since for ever. So trying to prove that she was tough was a waste of time and she nearly lost JM in the process! She cannot have it both ways: be a tough guy and then want a girlie wedding! No! (if she was that tough she should have left him)"
To which I had to say: " Gasp! Your saying a tom boy couldn't have a pretty woman moment?!?! And actually I say with love everyone has a moment of weakness or even wish to be their best looking on your special day. But you never expect your dude to not back you up ever either though. And in turn JM knew what he was getting into when getting with Xhex as well. Sure he had big dreams when he was pretrans. But when he met her before his change, he was drawn to her and it wasn't quite because she was the stay at home type either if I recall. So I never quite bought that since he 'grew up' Xhex had to suddenly stay at home and sit pretty routine. I love him but come on JM not everybody from the old country was living the life of the Glymera debutante. So kind of not fair for him to hold Xhex to that standard."
But we've hashed and re-hashed that go round of things. Back to the main discussion what was it again? LOL
