Jenna Almost in EVERY book ive read so far (im starting John and xhex now) Bella has a decent part in them (since she's been introduced) Seems like Ward really likes that character What do u guys think?

message 2: by Rebekah (new) - added it

Rebekah To be honest i hadn't really noticed till reading this but now that you mention it she really does, i mean Bella and Zadist even get their own special novella.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I think she mentioned in some interview that Zsadist is her favorite brother, so I guess she likes his shellan, too

Jenna but yea some of them Z doesnt even have a big part compared to her, (granted not everything that happens to bella is good) But yea 2nd book with Mary she had a part in it leading to her book next books is her book and yea she got her own novella with z then she had a huge part in Phurys book and now Rehvs book all about keeping the secret from her she had one in that book (dont know about the future havnt read them all yet:> ) hell i hadnt heard anything about Mary til she helped Wrath in Rehvs book. Mary doesnt get much book space

Jenna poor other shellans

Claudia the Night Owl I think she said her fav was Marissa

Dhfan4life I never considered that Bella was Ward's favorite. However. I figured she would have a connection in a lot of the books. After all she is part of the glymera which is in essence tied to Wrath's world. Which makes her sort of a society princess of sorts in their world. She was friends with Beth who is tied to John. And in turn being related to the BDB group. She had initial hots for Zsadist with the twin bro who initially had the hots for her. And her bro happens to be Rhev and what not. So more or less I have to say Bella in my eyes isn't exactly a favorite really. She just is one of those characters that have more connectivity to many people and things than you realize til you stop and think about it.

Jenna Bella was friends with Mary not beth at the start and her parents were aristacrats rehv was in the glymera tho

I think she meant Marissa...not Melissa. Unless I've missed a shellan in there somehow.

message 12: by Tara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tara There is a novella with Wrath and Beth and another with Rhage and Mary planned soon so I think it more just who fits within the scenes more. I mean Mary and Marissa are more quiet personalities (unless backed into a corner) and away from the mansion more for work. Beth can't be involved a lot of times because of who she is as Queen... what she says would have more meaning. So I think Bella being outspoken gives JR Ward a way to insert the "wives" voice into a scene. But it is interesting, I don't think I ever noticed until you mentioned it here! This is why I love discussions. :)

Dhfan4life Jenna wrote: "Bella was friends with Mary not beth at the start and her parents were aristacrats rehv was in the glymera tho"

Thanks for the correction. But still my point is that Bella was still on some level Bella was a society princess sort that still had ties and connections to a boat load of characters given her central position in the story. Regardless if she was just friends with Mary or her parents were this or her brother was that. Bella was the central connection for a lot of people.

Jenna yea i suppose, i dunno i just dont see it that way I understand yea she has connections to many characters but so do the other shellans so thats why i dont agree but i do kinda agree with Tara about her being a strong personality and being the "voice" and i also look forward to reading those novellas when they come out :)

Dhfan4life I don't really agree she is much of the voice though. Given how she barely knew what her own brother was doing. I mean yea she may be a bit more chatty. But the voice not so much I don't think. And by connections I meant that Bella has more connections in relation to upper society, regular vamps and even some what sleazy connections via what her brother used to be doing. The other shellans seemed to actually have some of their connectivity cut off. Like Mary from JM. Even Beth from Butch. Heck even Marissa is cut off from her own brother(do to his own choices) but still. Bella is miss personality for sure and actively keeps in touch with everyone on some level or other I think.

Stephanie Bolen It's not Bella so much as Z, Ward loves him and it shows. While every brother has head issues, you can really see it in every Z scene. Not tacked on like Wrath's and Butch's, not contrived like Phury and John's, not spread out like Rehv and Tohr. It's focused and epic. You see his abused psyche, feel his pain as he deals with each issue, and rejoice when he recovers. I think Blay and Quin's book is the only one that will come close.

message 17: by ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ (last edited Nov 05, 2012 07:58AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ No, I don't think Bella's her fave, Bella just happens to have an intricate connection to several of the characters in this series, so it may seem like she's a fave cos she comes up alot, but really it's cos of her ties to certain plots/characters. But she still doesnt really have alot of dialogue.

Now I think Jane is Ward's fave. Jane is the doc on site yes, (but Havers is a doc too.. Hell he was the only doc for their species til Jane & he's Marrisa's brother) but Jane really doesnt have any ties to the whole of characters or even major plots outside of V, yet since Jane has come on the scene, she ALWAYS gets way more page time than all the other Shellans combined in this series over a span of all the books since she was introduced in Lover Unbound.

Jane, I think is most like Ward in comparison, when you take in consideration Ward's previous job/experience before becoming a writer, & their physical appearances etc.. And I don't care how Ward tries to down play her "Feelings" for V, I think she seriously has a thing for him. I mean she pairs herself/Jane with V, and Jane continues to dominate when it comes to page time and actual dialogue compared to the other Shellans. Even if a Shellan is in the scene with Jane, say Rehv's Shellan Ehlena, she doesn't get to speak.

Erika I think Mary is her favorite. She is the only Shellan that has some relationship with the other Brothers, especially Zsadist. The scene when Z goes to visit R in Lover Eternal, what they say to each other..."You are extraordinary" he said to her (or something like that) She is who teaches Z to read and who gives him therapy when Nalla born. Z is Ward favorite Brother and I think she might like to be in Mary´s shoes (dearly loved by the hotess Brother and respected reverentially by the bad one)

Jodi Bella and Zsadist are my favorite! I have read that book several times, the other ones only once. Zsadist and Bella got me!

RelentlessBookChic Ramblings & Reviews Zsadist is one of my favorite brothers and I love he and Bellas story. I do agree Jane and Bella seem to be in the picture a lot more than the other Shellans. I have a soft spot for Jane but I think that is because I love me some "V" LOL

Shannon I agree and I love it because Z is my favourite brother and Bella is fun

i actually like bella (and mary)the best fromm the shellans anyways, before i saw this discussion i had sorta subconciously realized that she was the most mentioned but thanks for saying it out loud!

F.B. I read somewhere that Phury is her favourite, but I'm so glad he doesnt feature more int the books, he's such a pansy.

I agree Bella and Jane seem to be the featured Shellan's, followed closly by Marissa. Mary is almost NEVER featured which I think is sad. But the same can be said for Rhage, unless they're always holled up in their room knocking boots.

Theirs a Bella/Zadist novella? Really :)

Jenna Yea I think it's called father mine or something like that it's really good and worth reading

Kimberly Seers I cant blame her I love Bella to. Or maybe its her and Zadist cause he just melts my panties.

message 29: by Jodi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jodi Zadist & Bella are my favorite couple of hers. It's the only one of the brothers that I reread more than once. :)

Kathryn I think that Bella is "featured" a lot because she's "related" to a bunch of the characters. She was Mary's friend, she called the Brotherhood about J.M., she's Z's shellan so she's related to Phury and she's Rhev's sister. I agree with a lot of you about not featuring Rhage and Mary at all. She was important to J.M. and she helped Z tremendously. Jane is featured a lot because she is the BDB doctor now...... I don't really like Jane and I want V to get a new actually living shellan.

Jenna When I made this discussion I wasn't caught up on the series. I am now. And I agree jane has a bigger part since she is the live in dr for the brotherhood. I agree Mary doesn't get many pages at all. Also the last few books haven't even hinted at JM being Darius reincarnated. Whatever happened to that angle? I'm pretty excited about the king coming out in a few more wks :) love reading about Wrath and Beth.

Kathryn Jenna wrote: "When I made this discussion I wasn't caught up on the series. I am now. And I agree jane has a bigger part since she is the live in dr for the brotherhood. I agree Mary doesn't get many pages at al..."

Jenna, on her Facebook page she sometimes posts spoilers and she stated that J.M. is Darius but he will never get those memories back because it would ruin several story lines mainly JM & Xhex. But it would affect Thor, Wrath, Beth and the rest of the BDB.

Dhfan4life I think the Darius/JM reincarnation thing had to sort of drop. Not only cause the others have accepted JM for who he is now as a new and completely different entity from Darius. But I think it was mentioned as part of Darius's terms in regards to coming back. He would be allowed to come back if everyone else forgot about him. And the most Ward could logically do is have them go full circle with Xhex. From saving to mating.

I did hear there was going to be a novella about Mary and Rhage adopting a baby so there no doubt be some more pages there.

As for Jane being a ghost, I think that was the most clever way of going about giving them a permanent top surgeon that would never die. So much more interesting/cooler than the forever young Manny.

Kathryn Dhfan4life wrote: "I think the Darius/JM reincarnation thing had to sort of drop. Not only cause the others have accepted JM for who he is now as a new and completely different entity from Darius. But I think it was ..."

I just think that after everything was revealed about V's life, the story shortchanged him. He needed a strong, powerful, freaky woman. That's not Jane. She's cool and smart, but it would have been just as good for her not to be his shellan but somehow become the BDB's ghost doctor....... As for Manny that was just a stupid story period. Either he should turn and become the vamp that he is or just go away. They are always mentioning how they need more Brother's and since he & Butch have the same dad then he too is a descendant of Wrath. Therefore if he turned he'd be warrior sized and available to fight in the war. IMO of course.

Dhfan4life Oh I don't dispute that I wanted V to have someone that he was really into. I was leaning more towards Butch personally as they had such strong chemistry since the very first. But honestly given that he doesn't want kids, and if he was to be given a more living shellan, she'd be sorta in the second class citizen role like some of the other guy's shellans, and I'm sure in some way not even a regular vampire that he could drink from, what would be the point of him having a living mate? Not to be crass, but would just be another someone that they would have to worry about dying and would have to stay home cause she can't really help in a major way. Which admittedly I don't like that for their shellans. As not every chick is a sit at home and wait for her man type. I'll add too that with Jane being a ghost, it also shows he has other abilities with that gloved hand than the few we have barely gotten to see.

As for Manny, I think he was naturally going to be roped in too. Cause again they want to build their medical support side of things. But yea, I agree they could have had him turn all the way and just get it over with. And that way can be both medical guy and warrior guy if he wanted to be. The keeping him young thing will wind him up as a fetus before long lol.

Jenna Ohh I'd like to read about rhage and Mary adopting! And I agree Jane is a strong woman but I just don't see her as a badass like V.

Dhfan4life True, but what if in Ward's world, two badasses can't exist in the same relationship? I mean look at JM and Xhex. They both can fight and take on the bad guys. But do to one lapse with Lash, JM went into hyper coddle and abort all fighting mode where Xhex is concerned. And it was to the point she actually had to find other work just so she could fulfill needs of being said badass capable chick.
I hate saying it, but I just don't think in Ward's world of vamps, there is much room for women to be on the front lines of battle too much. Save for Payne and I just await there to be a sub plot where, even SHE will be regaled to the house at some point too. I hate that, cause the world is great, but dude I so feel like there needs to be a march for females of their world or something.

Patti Have any of you read the Insider's Guide? I want to get it, and wondered if there was more information in there about the Brothers and their shellans.....

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ Patti wrote: "Have any of you read the Insider's Guide? I want to get it, and wondered if there was more information in there about the Brothers and their shellans....."

Yea the Insiders Guide is awesome. Not only do u get in depth background on the brothers u get deleted scenes, slices of life, and the Novella Father Mine

Dhfan4life Yep I read it and it made me somewhat like Zsadist a bit more too.

Patti I love it when you get another peak at the shellans in the stories. I love Bella, Mary and Beth. I just can't get into liking Marissa. I'm reading Butch's story right now, and I just want to slap the heck out of her. It's like she's a little princess and wants everything her way or no way. Butch is on his knees trying to explain things to her and she's acting all put out. (thank you for letting me have my little rant) :)

Dhfan4life She is a product of her class, our Marissa. But still don't think Wrath should have treated her as he did in his book.

Jenna I agree wrath shouldn't have treated her the way he did I like the way she has grown throughout the books

Dhfan4life Me too. And it's ironic that she managed to actually get along with Beth and not be so catty about how things turned out.

Jenna Yea it really shows their character.

Dhfan4life That and everyone needs a first Shellan's club of sorts lol.

Jenna Lmao yes!!!!

KittyKat I thought I was the only one in love with the series. I do think Bella is one of the favorites shellan's. She is my fav out of them all

message 49: by ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ (last edited Apr 24, 2014 03:56PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ I will forever believe that Jane is the favored Shellan. Even though she doesn't have the ties to many characters like Bella, she still manages to have more page time and personal dialogue ( not just including her medical expertise), than any other Shellan in this series, since being introduced in book 5.

Dhfan4life Actually I don't mind Jane having more "screen" time so to speak. I mean she is one of their top medical peeps. If we didn't hear from her at all I would really be suspect about that.
