1) Read a novel with a parasol on the cover or in the title.
Little Women
2) Read a novel about vampires.
Carpe Jugulum
3) Read a novel in which someone gets murdered or there is an attempted murder but this is not the main plot. So no murder mysteries or something like that.
The Yellow Brick Road
4) Read a novel with a one-word title.
Onsigbaar
5) Read a novel set in real Victorian England. No alternate history stuff. The Far Pavilions
Total 5/5

Quick question, for the vampire task does one of the main characters have to be a vampire? Or can vampire just be a part of the story? I am reading one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter book.
The task is read a book about vampires. That means that vampires have to be a major part of the book. That doesn't mean that a vampire has to be one of the main characters. the book might be about someone who is killing vampires. I don't know the series you're talking about but I checked out your currently reading list to see which book you are reading and 146 people have it on their vampire shelf. So I gues vampires are a major part of the book.
Guys: I can't access any lists with lots of books, because the problem with the green button still exists. If you want me to check if a book is ok for a certain task, please supply a link to that book so I can simply click it. If I do a search for a book often the page will get stuck and in most cases that will result in my computer getting stuck since it is such an eager beaver and keeps trying to load it. This means I have to restart my computer, which takes time and is not fun. A link makes my life a whole lot simpler. Thanks!

You're very welcome!
At least they know what the problem is, but I am not sure they are working on it. They say they are, but who knows.
Apparently people who have over 50 shelves have this problem and every time they talk about it and say this you get the impression that Goodreads blames users with more than 50 shelves for making trouble.
Maybe it is time to rearrange my shelves and make them better, but with over 1000 books on those shelves it is not something you do in 10 minutes.

I keep thinking I should go through my books and rearrange them into better organised shelves but now I am thankful for my procrastination!

You're sure that is the right task?
I ask since you already said you had finished that task, so maybe you mean you finished another one.
I'll update again later today!

No worries. I thought you were mixing your thoughts into one sentence and that you had finished your second task but you just gave me the wrong number. :)

I thought Barbara might misunderstand and think I was booing her awesome banner!

I understood what you meant even without the explanation and thought it was very funny.
I wish I could take credit for the awesome banners, but they are once again the work of Lu. :)

Even more reason to explain. She can come over to my house and beat me up! lol
Good job Lu!

OK, I am enjoying this even though the tasks originally filled me with dread! I am listening to Carpe Jugulum on my commute and laugh all the way to work or home, which is really good for my stress levels with the chaos of construction when live animals are involved!
I have read Task 3 and Soulless (Where do we record our bonus book reads?)
Question: Does "The" count in a book title for Task 4? Would The Warlock be acceptable?

Congrats Emma! I will update later when I have the time.
There is a seperate topic called bonusbooks where you can say which you have read and discuss what you thought about it. You can find it here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
"The" does count for the one word title. So if a title has "the" in it, it is probably a two word title. The Warlock is a two word title.

I suspected that, but I am a firm believer in asking as you cannot lose by getting more information!!
Updating in bonus topic now... Thanks

Zoom in and you'll see that the woman on the right is carrying what I assume is a parasol, not an umbrella.
Yip, that is a parasol, so you can use it.
BTW for everyone that said parasols were old fashioned and are no longer used: I saw a news feature this weekend about Prince Charles and Camilla visiting Australia and Camilla was carrying and using a white parasol.

Well, Charles is getting more modern. I used to think he was this stiff old bloke, but then I saw a documentary about him and he is actually quite funny.
And some people said that real parasols were no longer used by anyone. But Camilla (even if she is old fashioned) used one last week. So that is prove that they are still used in present day.

Lauren, you're brilliant! I was looking for a parasol book everywhere and I forgot to add The Constantine Affliction to my to-read list when I got it, so it went overlooked. But the parasol on the cover is also not very obvious, so I might have missed it anyway.
