Ohhhhh! Fun! Love those series! (Especially Sirantha Jax!)

I love this series. It's one of my favorite. Merit is an awesome kick-ass heroine. She's been thrust into this life of a vampire and instead of wallowing in self pity she's jumped in with both feet and her katana. She's grown stronger and more awesome throughout the series.
A lot happens in this book and although a ton of things get wrapped up leaving the reader with the question of where they can go next, the very last page definitely paints a very interesting picture about the future of Cadogan House and all of her vampires. This is one of those series where saying too much in a review can spoil things, so I'll just leave it at love this book and it just adds to the greatness that is this series. I will definitely keep reading and recommending the series to everyone I know.

Jax is a jumper and has a space gene that allows her to move quickly through space. Reminds me a bit of Dune and taking spice to bend space.
This book had elements of Dune and Firefly. There is some funky aliens, gun fights, space battles and some broken people fighting the "man".
It has all the elements to be epic and I did really enjoy it.....but it has a couple of things that stopped it being a 5 for me. #1 too short. It was almost over before it began. #2 The characters needed more development. This is probably due to the shortness of the book and stopped me from really believing the depth of relationship that developed between the characters.

Charley Davidson books are an interesting mix of humor, mystery and urban fantasy.
Since Charley works as a private investigator, she again has murder case to solve and a couple of minor problems and intrigues on the way. This book was much better in the mystery part than the first and I was really involved and intrigued, trying to figure it out and connect the dots. Unfortunately, it has the same problem as the first book, that the ending/resolution to the case somehow felt flat and not explained enough.
The events happening in the book are not funny at all, but Charley's narration makes them that way. Her comments made me chuckle a lot and sometimes even lol. She also made me drink too much coffee. I think it's the problem when reading this books. She praises and drinks coffee so much, that you have to follow. x_x
The urban fantasy genre is again represented in Charley being a grim reaper. I liked that now except talking to ghosts, there are hints of her other abilities and I hope we will find out more about them in next book.
Another aspect of the urban fantasy is Charley's
There is a lot less hot and sexy scenes (that's why I skipped the paranormal-romance label) but I think it's even better without it.
I did not like the way things ended between them and I was actually on Reyes side and understand his behavior to Charley at the end. I don't know what she expected that will happen. I am interested to find out how she will correct that mistake. And I think flashing Danger & Will Robinson will not help.

Really want to find out more about Reyes :D

Dragana, I am so on the fence about Charley...and I think it's Reyes' fault. I swear I'm the only person in the world who isn't much of a Reyes fan. lol

@Paris: Well I would not say I am a Reyes fan, he's not really my type. But I did not like how Charley acted in the end. I hate it when people do what they think is best for you and ignore your decision, and that's basically what she did.
Great review Caroline and Paris. I did not read either of those series, but you made me move them up on my tbr. :)

This was a fun, intense and quick read. I simply could not put it down and devoured it in one afternoon.
Some people complain in their reviews and find similarities with other books, but I found the world Kate Locke created quite original and interesting. (Maybe because I did not read Parasol Protectorate series...)
The plot is based on the premise that the plague did not kill all the people that were infected but created a gene mutation. So now we have vampires and were-wolves and goblins and half-breeds. The world of today in the book is so very different than our own. There were no world wars. Adolf Hitler was just a not very talented German painter. Queen Victoria still rules in England (since she is a vampire). The fashion and technology can be best described as mild steam-punk. It was all very interesting.
The heroine Xandra is half-human half-vampire and she is in a Royal Gard sworn to protect vampire nobility. She is very good narrator, her descriptions of surroundings can be almost poetic but can also be short and precise in action scenes increasing the tension. When she was fighting sometimes I felt like I was watching the movie.
Maybe the romance part of the story was a little bit under developed, but there were so many things happening to her that I did not feel like anything was missing.
I can not comment anything that happens to her without big spoilers, but I will say that there were a couple of major unexpected twists. Did I mention that I could not put it down? :)
The big plus for a book is that everything is resolved in the end. There is no pesky cliffhanger to torture us until next year. I will definitively read the next book in series.

I really thought when I started this book "oh boy am I going to like this book?"...it was somewhat like The Hunger Games but only creepier....I loved Triss & Tobias & I thought that Roth had a way with delivering the scenes from the book rather well...I felt at times that I could almost follow the book like it was a movie in my head & then I was trying to figure out if they were going to make this book into a movie who I would pick for which characters. Definitely going to read the next book because I just cant be kept wondering...

I'm going to change my free read to

Review:
I just loved this book and now, I declare myself addicted to this series. The relationship between Elena and Raphael made me say Aww... aloud many times. In the first book, I thought Raphael was too cold but in this one, his heart is finally warming up. I also loved the plot, in part because I don't believe I ever read something similar, which is becoming a rarity in urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres.

book 2 of the Sirantha Jax series was a much more rounded book than the first. seemed to have more content and characterisation. Even got to love some of the new characters.
Jax is freed of the responsibilty of the crash from book one and is now poor and jobless due to the breakdown of the corp. She's approached to become an ambassador to Vel's people in the hope of bringing them into the congolerate. Things really don't go according go plan.
We have a war, a kidnap, horrible creatures who just love snacking on humans and some new friends.
Really enjoyed this one. Jax became much more real to me and I enjoyed the development of relationships between her and the crew. Looking forward to the next one.

Well, I must say that Ms. Hamilton surprised me with this book. I was completely anticipating sex, sex, and more sex with a bit of story in between. Amazingly, it was actually the opposite.
Meredith Gentry is a fey princess in hiding. She lives in L.A. And works for a detective agency. After getting in way too deep in a case, she is eventually outed and is forced to face her royal life. She is given three years to produce a child and become heir to the throne.
I found the writing flowed well. The world Hamilton built could be a tad confusing at times, but the cast of characters worked. While this book was interesting, it just isn't my cup of tea. I doubt I will continue on with the series, but that would not keep me from recommending it to fellow readers.

Great job ladies! I definitely think we are a team to be reckoned with! We are the third team to request a stamp. Totally kick ass!

I've really wanted to like this series, really wanted to like Charley, but there was always something that kinda held me back. I thought it was Reyes and the lack of chemistry between him and Charley and after reading this book, I think I was right. The best parts of this book were when he wasn't around. And unlike the other books he wasn't as much of her focus.
I also think she might have matured a little in this book, which I think will be nice. While I love her witty one liners and the banter with people like Uncle Bob and Cookie, sometimes I think the books get a little frantic because she's trying too hard to be funny and maybe annoying. Hopefully she'll learn a little from what happens in this book. And I truly hope we see more of Donovan...he was a very nice addition to Charley's world. I will pick up the next one, although it might not be at the top of my TBR.

Dr. Dawn Riley is a psychologist who specializes in dreams. She also happens to be the only one of her kind. Her mother is a human while her father is King of Dreams. Their union produced a child who can exist in the real world and the Dream Realm. Dawn is faced with having to accept her role as heir to the throne in order to save her patient turned boyfriend, Noah, and the rest of the world from an evil entity that is known in the Dream Realm as a Terror.
This book was okay. I found myself skimming over paragraphs due to the authors ability to go on forever about meaningless things. The minute I thought the characters were growing, the author would throw a wrench into it. Dawn would behave like an adult one minute, then act like a child the next. While this is an interesting concept, I never was able to get that into it.
BTW - Does the title sound awkward to anyone else or am I being too anal? (wake vs. awake)
