Blackwater by James Henry, a very ordinary read. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Although I'm a devoted Rebus fan, somehow along the way I missed The Black Book. The Book Gods led me to find it in a sale bin at a second hand bookstore, great read as expected.
Just finished a very good and slightly different take of a golden age detective story
The 12.30 from Croydon by Freeman Wills Croftshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

She's been on my TBR list for a while but I have not read any of the series. I normally like to begin at the beginning with a series, but wondering if this is necessary for this one? I ask because my library doesn't have the first couple of books.
I can always buy the first one(s), of course, but I'll be doing a library run tomorrow and would consider picking up one of the later ones if you think that makes sense.

Hi Mary. If you like suspense with great twists, I really can't recommend her highly enough. They're all consistently good reads. If you want to read a series, start with Now You See Me, book #1 of Lacey Flint. The rest are stand alones so you can't go wrong by grabbing any of them.
Thanks for the info. I didn't think about reading a stand-alone. Need more caffeine this morning, I guess.

Would this author be a good option for our group read in April?

I think members of this group would enjoy any of her books but then I'm a big fan ;)
They're all consistently good suspense stories with well developed characters & killer twists. The only thing is they'd probably have to be a main read as I don't think her books get marked down that much.
Just finished
Forget Me Not by Luana Lewis. Excellent read! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I have just finished a really good psychological thriller
Little White Lies by Elizabeth McGregor. Chilling! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Holy Orders by Benj. Black. Set in Ireland which was a change. But it was missing the mystery component completely, although that's what is was supposed to be. Did have a death but after that it was just a story, really,

Blood Ties by Jenny Francis, an okay read, but nothing special. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Truth about Diamonds
by Nichole Riche
After reading a string of depressing or violent books, I went looking for something silly and mindless. When I saw that Nicole Richie had written a book, I definitely thought I had found it. I started it with a critical attitude but about a quarter of the way through when I started recognizing who she was writing about or a mixture of certain characters then I started to enjoy it. She tells of the stupid and dangerous things that she and her crowd were living out. It was very much like reading a tabloid (and don't deny you don't when you are going through the checkout line!) but you can definitely get the feel of who Nicole was at that time and the kind of person she began to aspire to be. As far as I know she has succeeded. I enjoyed the book.
This is not Shakespeare but it is fun.
The Taking by Dean KoontzThis was the third or forth time I have read this book and each time it draws me into the horror of the Apocalypse (or alien invasion) take your pick. It reminded me this time of reading my first Stephen King book--Salem's Lot and having to run through the house for the bathroom and run back and under the covers. That's how scary that book was and this one gave me the same creeps.
Denise Mina puts her own spin on the trial of real life serial killer Peter Manuel in 1950's Glasgow.

Thanks for your thoughts. FWIW, Missing,Presumed was much the way you described Persons Unknown. I think I will pass based on your review and try to find something more satisfying.

A bit disappointing for me, Mary. Unfortunately, I just didn't find the MC interesting enough to get wrapped up in the story & it all revolves around her.
On a happier note, just finished this & it's a keeper.
