(Otherwise I could have spent over $100). I kept myself down to $37 (I know, I'm terrible!)

i did...but i never read the original, so I had no way to compare it, but it was good
The special edition has 30 additional pages added and she goes into more detail making the ex-boyfriend an alcoholic.

In the original version, you never would have figured it out. In the special edition, she goes on about it quite a bit. Because he's an alcoholic is why he's abusive. It's suppose to explain his personality. Personally, at least to me, the book was better without all the further explainations as he wasn't the focus of the book anyway.
i must have the original then, because none of that is one the one i read, but it has the part at the end from her about revamping it...so maybe she took that stuff out - it says published in 2002 on it
I guess I read the original version, too, even though it was a later publication date as well because I don't remember anything about him being an alcoholic.

yeah, that's the cover I have (the one you have marked as special edition), but i don't remember anything about alcoholism or abusive ex-boyfriend in it...he's neglectful and focused on his daughter, but not abusive
My special edition is marked as such and has a 5 page intro where she explains what she added and where the extra 30 pages of additional info came from. It's in the intro that you learn he's an alcoholic as it's never flat-out said in the book, but the additional scenes she adds are mostly between our herione and her ex which didn't really help the book any. He's horrid, and has a horrid daughter, lol, that's all that matters til she finds her true love. Not why he's awful.
mine has that...I guess I just never picked up on that...but then I didn't read the authors note until I was done because it was at the end and I didn't have the original to compare it to...I just though Robert was a jackass (since he is a doctor and all)
Yeah, he's a jackass and his daughter is a b****. lol But they are minor characters you aren't suppose to like anyway.(My authors note was right up front before the story starts, where you have to flip past before reading.)
