oohhh, while digging through boxes I found this! It's an anthology of 3 regency romances and it has cupids and a heart on the cover. Valentine Wishes: Lady Diana's Courtship, A Valentine From Venus, Cupid's Ace.
I have one book set aside for another challenge. I might have to bump it up for this one! Heart cover:
History of Valentines Challenge Duration: February 5 - 18, 2010
Total pages needed = 2612
REWARD: 3 new or 6 used books
BONUS: Double points for picture on cover or word in the titles of the following: heart, cupid, valentine, candy. Triple points if you have BOTH the word & the picture on the same cover example: if Game of Hearts has a heart or hearts on the cover, you would get triple points.
224 pages - Faux Finished - Peg Marberg - 06/02/10
208 pages - The Judas Goat - Robert B. Parker - 07/02/10
Briansgirl--what you do is put a big #1, #2 etc on the boxes, then put that one your shelf too--that way you don't have to try to remember which box the book is in--you know right away.I have done zero reading in the last 2 days (I've also had no computer, hubby was mucking about with it, putting in new op sys, hard drive etc.) On the plus side tho--I've finished 1 throw pillow (machine embroidered full blown rose, then put dk green ribbon "framing" the rose, then trapunto'ed the rose, and finally quilted the entire front panel of the pillow.) I've also done some cleaning and sorting of my sewing stuff. Of which I have a LOT--fabric, threads, odds and ends, laces, ribbons, beads. . .
Doesn't look like I'll get to do any reading for the rest of today and maybe not even tomorrow either.
But congrats to everyone on what they've gotten read so far.
Ann, that sounds fabulous. Worth not reading or being on the computer for a few days. I would love a craft room to organize. I have to stuff and hide where I can make it fit.
I haven't been reading much either, but I really don't have a good excuse. I just didn't.

After this I'm out of triple bonus books unless I read Candy Cane Murder (but I'm all burned out on xmas stories.) Have quite a few double count bonus books like Truly, Madly that has a heart on the cover.

Congrats Briansgirl ! You won WOOOOHOOOO!Great new challenge and definitely a challenge to read 3579 pages in 11 days lol !
Jane wrote: "Congrats Briansgirl ! You won WOOOOHOOOO!Great new challenge and definitely a challenge to read 3579 pages in 11 days lol !"
Thanks Jane. I know it's alot but hey, we're up for it aren't we? hehe If nobody makes it, whoever is closest wins.
wow Kate, you are a reading a storm this month. I you expect 3579 more - OK, I can try (probably wont succeed) Great new challenge.
Most of the books I read this month so far Debbie are either short, or were quick reads. The second novella from Be My Valentine dragged for me, but I forced my way through it for triple page counts. The only two times I've ever won this I got double or triple page counts. lolWe've had shorter count off's but it's been awhile since we had a longer one, so just went with what their two birthdays added up to. I used Washington's birthday for the end date. If nobody reaches the total page count by the deadline, then whoever is in the lead wins.
I got myself tied up with a 400+ that I just can't get into. I am about half way and about to say it's enough. I need to do some catch up - I will fire my e-reader up and read 2 or 3 very soon. I have got to get my head out of the BIG one.I don't mind the longer ones, if I can find a book that will keep my interest, I can finish a 400 in a day or 2 - but this one has been a week, talk about a waste of time for me.
Life's too short to read crap! lol I still remember Adam West (aka Batman from 1960's) doing an old commercial for TV Land cable network saying "Life's too short to watch crap!" lol I give myself permission to quit books I can't get into. I hate having to find other books to fit challenge categories but it just isn't worth it for me to read books I don't like. I have tried alot of new authors or different books to fill categories, many of which I did actually enjoy. A few duds amongst the bunch though. lol
By popular request, since this is a large page count challenge, I'm extending the end date of the challenge to the end of the month, Feb 28th. Added an extra bonus to help out with page counts, in keeping with the theme. Hopefully this will help. I upped the reward as well. :)President's Day Challenge

yep, yep, yep! I am at the point of stopping. Thanks for the extension. Some of you readers may not need it. lol
Your welcome Debbie. I figured with a larger challenge, it gives everyone a chance to get in there. No sprints to the end on this one. Also, if you're reading a couple books at a time, it gives you more time to finish them.
History of Valentines Challenge REWARD: 3 new or 6 used books
Here is what I bought (used online) for my 6 reward books:
Nim at Sea by Wendy Orr. Bought and read book 1. Library doesn't have book 2 so ordered it.
Dead Until Dark and Living Dead in Dallas by by Charlaine Harris. I have Sookie Stackhouse #3 and figured I better get #1 and #2 since I like to read a series in order.
The Ghost and the Dead Man's Library by Alice Kimberly. Will admit I saw this on Jane's wish list and it looked interesting.
Mary Poppins by Pamela L. Travers. I have P.L. Travers biography (Mary Poppins, She Wrote: The Life of P. L. Travers by Valerie Lawson ) so figured I better read the actual book she wrote since I've only seen the Disney movie starring Julie Andrews. I don't know how many books are actually in the series.
and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The first in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. My son and I both want to read it and the library has a long waiting list.

how do you mean "fictional" president? Like in movies were they use a general name and call him the president? I am a little dense at times, lol.
Kenjii ~*~Black Kat~**~ wrote: "how do you mean "fictional" president? Like in movies were they use a general name and call him the president? I am a little dense at times, lol."Exactly Kenjii. I have a book called The President's Plane is Missing by Robert J. Serling. The President is on the plane when the plane goes missing. He is the US President for purposes of the book, but not a historical or real (living or dead) president. Think of the Harrison Ford movie, Air Force One. The plane is hijacked midflight with the President on board. Not all fictional novels use real (living or dead) presidents, but they are still good novels. I figured for purposes of keeping with our theme, any book with the President as a character was good enough. That way we weren't all having to read biographies unless you wanted too.
Debbie wrote: "wow, what a take. I am looking forward to the Sookie's and Percy Jackson series' myself. "I don't normally read gothic vampire novels but so many here like the series and recommend it, I thought I'd give it a go. Found the third book a while back for 50 cents, so thought I'd get the first two so I could read them in order. Many series can be read out of order, but it helps if you read the first book when they introduce the characters. As for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians - it just sounded interesting. The library's waiting list is so long because the movie is due out any time now. I got a used copy for only $2.22 so that isn't bad.

Welcome to the Count-Off challenges Amber. The rules are in the first post, but basically we count pages read between the dates of each challenge, while refraining from buying books. If we buy something, we either wait for the next challenge, or in larger challenges reset our count to zero and start over.
CONGRATULATIONS, KATE!!! And your new challenge is fantastic!I finally got my reward books for Ann's challenge:
