Ephipany or Three Kings Day is celebrated in several hispanic countries like Spain and Puerto Rico on January 6th - 12 days after Christmas Day. It honors the day the three wise men brought gifts to the newborn king. In countries where it's celebrated, children leave their shoes out the night before with straw or hay inside. That night, the three wise men stop by to rest their horses or camels as they follow the star. To thank you for leaving food for their mounts they leave a small gift in your shoes.
I came up with the page count of 1610 because Epiphany falls on 1/6/10

When I got it I didn't realize it was a futuristic 'Sci-fi', I like JM Snyder so I guess it never really mattered. It is only about 30 pgs, but it really pulled me in.
Question: How do you work it with overlapping challenges. New Year Challenge isn't over yet, do you use the same books to participate in the Epiphany and the New year from the 2nd to the 8th?
We only start a new challenge once the last one is over.Ann posted her pages 2285, and won =D. If your in the middle of a book and say you posted a few pages in one challenge and it finished. You can always finish the book and post it in the next challenge. I hope this answers ur question.
Debbie: Yeah. I figured it would be good. I've liked JM's free stories and bought one [I think:]. I love what she can do with characters in the short stories or even with no sexual interaction.
oohhh, nice challenge. And I'm in--and have already finished (just about 20 minutes ago) my first book for it. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I read a lot--bad health plus a really fast reader.) :o)title and author page #

A new challenge was started Debbie because someone completed the required page count. If nobody reaches the required number of pages, whoever has the most pages on the date the challenge ends wins. Once someone wins by either method, a new challenge is started. If you are partially into a book at the time the challenges change, you can count from whatever page your on to the end of the book as a partial page count.
oooooohhhh, I am new at this, I get it. So starting on the 2nd, everything counts for the Epiphany Challenge. Right? So I should take Manhunt and start the new challenge. I will eventually catch on. Thanks for the info.
Kenjii wrote: "Debbie: Yeah. I figured it would be good. I've liked JM's free stories and bought one [I think:]. This one is like $2-something. I like the character driven stories most too.
You got it Debbie. :) We started naming the challenges to make it easier to tell the new one from the old ones. Usually someone reaches the required number of pages before the deadline, but occassionally the deadlines get here before we can read that much. Some challenges have smaller page counts (and a smaller reward) and others have alot larger page counts. And occassionally you can get help with a bonus that can double some of your page counts.

lol, actually I've decided that I win for every challenge if I'm the "first" to make the page count or not. That way I have a perfect excuse to get myself some new books. As soon as the ones I ordered from Amazon for the last contest come in, I'll link them. And now, present count.

so that is how you all get so many books read. I actually don't work either, unless you count kids and animals and of course a husband work. lol haha
I'm out. I bought books. I visited the thrift shop in town that sells them the cheapest at 50 cents each and got a bag of books.
um, ok, does going to the library to pick up books that you've been waiting months and months and MONTHS for count as "buying"? If so, I'm out--I finally got the notice that 2 of the Kitty books I'd been waiting for and 1 of the Jaz Parks books were in. So, migraine headache, acting up arthritis, wind chills of 0 degrees F and all--I rushed right over and picked them up. :o) If it does not count against me, then here's my present count.title and author page #

While a YA I'm enjoying this series. It follows the adventures of 17 y.o. Madison Avery, who managed--somehow--to survive the attack of a Dark Reaper and steal his amulet, which allows her to continue to have an existence, despite being dead AND having no body. Interesting idea, and I do like Kim Harrison, the writer. I gave it 5 stars.
Once Dead, Twice Shy
No, you're good with library books. The idea here wa not to buy books if you're in the count-off challenge. By buying some I am either out til the next one starts, or I can reset my count to zero and start over.
aahhh, ok. I wasn't sure about that. And um--what about pre-ordered books? I have 3 months worth of pre-orders already posted to Amazon--do they count? Since I'm never quite sure when they will come in (I pre-order them then forget about them)
They count when you buy them Ann, not when they arrive in the post. So you're good there too. Sometimes I've snuck buying in quickly between challenges, lol.

BJ, I heard about Madeleleine Albright's book. May have to see if the library ever gets it as it's the type of book they'd have.

Tempted in the Night by Robin T. Poppis the third novel in the Night Slayers series. I've enjoyed this book, mostly because of what they've done with Chupacabras--a South American mythical creature, viewed kind of like a Big Foot would be up here. In this series, they are actually what a gargoyl turns into at night. Or what turns back into a gargoyl when they die. But they are ALSO the "parents" of vampires. Very interesting idea. This is a UFR--Urban Fantasy Romance--darker than a PNR, but not as dark as a regular UF, and there is a HEA for a different couple in each book.

Instead of talking about how important she was in any discussions/negotiations, she focused on what big things were happening, and what message she was trying to send with the brooches/pins she chose each time. A refreshing change. My book was a Christmas present - I don't usually buy hardbacks for myself.

I don't remember where I saw a review of it, but I remember it saying something about how the different broaches she collected and wore held alot of meaning to her and that she wore some for special reasons as well. It's not the type of book I'd spend money on, but would love to check it out from the library if they have it. May have to look into that.
Okay, just looked. lol Love that my library has an online card catalog. Not only do they have it, but I logged in online and put a request in for it. It's checked out now and I'm first in queue for when it's returned.

Sorry about the partial count on my current one, but I'm off to the UBS today, and I saw that I only needed 31 more pages to reach 1610, so...
Will see how creative I can be with a new challenge!
Debbie wrote: "Good grief BJ, that was quick. Ok, what to read next."Yeah, Debbie - I had a lot of reading to make up for, since I only had time to read one book while we were visiting out-of-town for Christmas!
Thanks for the congrats, Kate!
