ya'll are giving me alot of room to try to win this time. hehe (I havn't won one yet). I'm currently reading MythBusters The Explosive Truth Behind 30 of the Most Perplexing Urban Legends of All Time by Keith and Kent Zimmerman. It's my Z author for A-Z Author Challenge and is on a bday girls book shelf for this month as well.
BG, are they the guys behind Mythbusters on TV? I am slowly making my way through 4 paperbacks and 1 e-book.
More like serendipity for you than any deliberate action on my part. We just don't seem to be able to walk past a bookstore in the mall. My hubby saw a book in the window that he wanted to check on, so in we went. But when he said he wouldn't buy one unless I did, I said 'OK', and didn't think anything of it until we got home and I went to add it to my TBR list.I'm just starting The Dream Thief for (a) the Fall Challenge, (b) PNR Challenge, (c) It's a Jungle Challenge, (d) A-Z Character Challenge (Zane). Gotta love those multi-purpose books!

Do partial books count? I thought we could only use a partial book if we were completing the challenge as our last book. I've not been listing books I havn't finished. I've been reading alot of different non-fiction books but not finishing them yet so havn't listed them.

Since I had started these books and had not included the counts I can use the partial counts, because its a new challenge. Any more questions?
I use this rule to keep from using currently read books from being counted [partially:] in new challenges and then the page count jumping ahead of everyone. So if you have to finish a currently read book in a new challenge that could take a few hours or a day and even the playing field. Using new books to partially count pages gives us another reason to start reading another book from our TBR pile. PLEASE keep track of your partial counts on the board b/c it helps to be able to back track. Using "add author/book" enables you to use the column to the right to search the topic and find your post to see your page count progress.

I'm confused. I only count something if I've finished it, either from start to finish, or from where I was when the challenge started to the end. The only other partial counts was for you to say read 9 pages of something to finish the challenge, then count from page 10 on for next challenge. Am I missing something? Since I've never won either I'm a slow reader compared to you lot or I'm not counting right.
OK, here's my understanding of what Kenjii said:Rule #1: When a new challenge starts, you can use any unread pages of a book you started before the challenge, but not the whole book.
Rule #2: You can use a partial count (pages read) of a book you're currently reading if you only need a few (p pp. or 59 pp. or whatever) to complete the challenge.
Rule #3: You can use partial counts (read pages) of any book you are currently reading - but keep good records so you don't claim them twice!
BG, I think the 3rd rule is the one that was surprising to you, and was a bit of a surprise to me as well - but I'm not arguing! I probably will only count partial pages if I need just a few to complete/win the challenge, but if you're like Kenjii and read a bunch of books at once, this rule would be beneficial to you - I usually only have 2 or 3 going at one time, and when one grabs me, the others are pushed aside until I've finished that one.

I've never heard of rule #3 before today. I read alot of different books, but I'm not going to keep track of that many page counts. It's too much work. I won't bother. SO.... I'll never win.

But I was confused as well, so I broke down and went back to read the rules in the first post:
"The challenge is to count the pages you read (books, e-books count from BOM and challenges esp.). Any books started in a PREVIOUS challenge and FINISHED in the current challenge can only be counted in the current challenge once the book is done. All other books can be counted as you read them..."
So I guess it's been there all along - I just never considered it.
Whatever you do have fun guys!!!! Its not that serious, lol. Count the pages you read, just make sure to use this simplified page count. New Challenge= FINISHED books AND partial counts of NEW books.
BJ: Rule #3 works just fine. The First post explains it simply as well. I just want anyone coming in late or people [like me:] that read more than one book to be even with those of yall that are only reading one book from start to finish. If I am currently reading 5 books and count the pages I'd win every time but if I have to [partially:] count ONLY new books during a new challenge then my previously reading would only count when I FINISH.
Example: My CR books for this challenge can ONLY be counted when I finish them in the next challenge(s) [since this challenge is over, and I did not finish these books:]. IF I start a NEW book those pages can be counted partially.

Hi Kenjii. Thanks but my reading time is very limited at the moment with exam preparations at work but thanks to my ereader I managed to read three very short novellas at work today in my short breaks.
I cancelled out a book I hadn't even entered here yet and I did it in full knowledge this time! I went to the library yesterday to pick up some requested books, and of course had to walk through the Friends of the Library sale room. Found 3 books for 50¢ each - that was worth losing 335 pp (gulp!) I got:Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

The movie is Excellent!!! F. Murray Abraham plays the bad guy. Christian Slater plays Sean Connery's young assistant. I'll have to see if my library has it. I saw I can buy a used copy for 85 cents plus shipping off Amazon.com. I'll save it for the U I'll need for Read the Month January. :)

The Case of the Frozen Diplomat is a story set in Canada from the Murder Takes a Holiday anthology. I know you're needing a Canada story for the monthly challenge and have that book too. The Alibi is in the same anthology, and is in the South American section, so I read it for a hispanic category.
