Paris (pah13) Has anyone heard from Dyllan?

message 58: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments I was wondering if our team is penalized some way since Dyllan didn't report her book as read this past week. Will she still be able to claim BED and the other items she finds even though the week is up?

message 59: by Paris (last edited Sep 07, 2012 11:14AM) (new)

Paris (pah13) Yeah she will be able to claim them. I filled in as a backup at the end of the last round and picked up a bunch of items for that team. So we will get her points when she checks in.

She is in another group playing their team challenge and that one started today, so she might have thought they both started this weekend instead of last weekend. Maybe Toni can PM her if we don't hear from her soon.

Toni ~married to a hunk~ (tonileigh) I will PM her right now. I am not sure what I am going to do for green but I will think of something. WTG team and keep up the Good Work.

Katherine (katdylan) Week 1, BED.

Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward - 527 Pages.

As always I can't help but love the BlackDagger Brotherhood Series. This is a re-read for me, and once again I couldn't stop reading. I totally fell in love with Revh and Ehlena again, and Wrath and Beth and John and Xhex. Now I need to do an Lover Mine re-read! Lol. 5 Stars.

Paris (pah13) Week 2: Green

Hyde, an Urban Fantasy by Lauren Stewart
Finished: 9/8
Rating: 4/5 stars
Review:
A bunch of my Goodreads friends have read and reviewed this book lately and after reading the sample from Amazon I knew I had to buy it. I really liked this book. It's a great take on the Jekyll/Hyde story.

I really liked Mitchell and Eden and I hope that everything works out for them. It'll be interesting to see how things progress given everything that happened in this book. There is so much mystery involved that I'm dying to read the next one to see what the hell is going on. I look forward to learning more about The Clinic and what the frak they are doing.

Color: Green - Location 2405 - real old looking, green cloth-bound book.
People: Single Male - Location 216 - Mitchell is a single male.
Places: Road - Location 1557 - Mitch's eyes never left the road.
Thing: Blood - Location 45 - The only part of her still moving was the blood pooling beneath her body.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Week 2 - GREEN

The Absent One by Jussi Adler-Olsen

The Absent One by Jussi Adler-OlsenThe Absent One by Jussi Adler-Olsen

9/9/2012 - GREEN

People - Warrior - Carl Morck is a police detective recovering from gunshot wounds received in the line of duty deals with the aftermath of the shooting that left his partner paralized, another detective dead and hisself recovering while tracking down a viscious gang of killers.
Places - Open Space - farther out they could see an almost endless view across Hesselo Bay page 69
Things - Wing - Frightened birds flew from the treetops, wings beating the air page 1
Colors - Green - with her face half covered by a dirty green shawl page 3

This was book 2 of the Department Q series translated from Danish. This summer I read The Keeper of Lost Causes for the summer SRC and it was undoubtedly my favorite book I have read in a long time. Without giving away too much of the plot this series of books centers around a Copenhagen police detective that is given an office in the basement and given the task of heading a cold case squad hence the name keeper of lost causes. I absolutely love the cast of characters in the department and the action is extremely intense and some parts are definitely not for everyone. I give it ★★★★★ 's

Toni ~married to a hunk~ (tonileigh) Week 2 Green

I read Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6) by Chloe Neill and HOLY SMOKES!! I love this series the more and more that I read it but man could my life get any worse for having to wait for the next one now. :-)

I am claiming green, non-human (angel or faerie), metropolitan area (Chicago) and smoke (from the farm house burning down) I finished the book today September 9th. I give is 5 stars.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Hi team, I just stopped by to say hi and see how everyone's week is going?

message 72: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) Hi Sheila! Week's been crazy at work and for some reason Goodreads is running super slow at work today so it's been killing me not to get on. I'm ready for Friday.

How about you? How's your week going?

message 73: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments My week is going good Paris. I spent the morning at a friends house working on piecing together a quilt top for a national group called quilts of valor. We make quilts to give to wounded soldiers. That was fun.

Then I stopped at the library and picked up a book from the new releases bookshelf. I'm already 50 pages in and I am absolutely hooked. Don't you love that? Anyway it is about a group of people in Norway that survive a train wreck only to be rescued to a huge old hotel in the wilds of Norway. They are trapped at the hotel due to terrible weather. People mysteriously die or turn up missing. Think the hotel in the Shining. Great book so far - new author to me Anne Holt.

Have I mentioned this week how much I LOVE being retired?

Toni ~married to a hunk~ (tonileigh) Sheila I am jealous that you are retired but I know that my day will come. I am getting all my reading in now before I get pregnant then I won't have time to read until I retire. :-) I will have to check out that book you talked about. I hope that everyone is having a great week too. I know that I am ready for Friday too.

message 75: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Good idea Toni. I didn't read a book from the time I graduated from college until I was probably 50. With 2 kids I had lots of other things to do. Nowadays I take my grandsons to the library and help them pick out books. I am happy that both my kids and their spouses like to read as well.

BTW I did put in 37 years on the job before I bailed.

message 76: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) Sigh...I often fantasize about retirement and all the hours in the day that I will have to do whatever I want. I can't wait. Until then I'll waste time at work wishing I could be reading instead. lol

Paris (pah13) Looks like this weeks item is Famous Landmark...now off to find a book to read.

Okay I'm gonna read Eternal Starling (Emblem of Eternity, #1) by Angela Corbett . Hopefully there's a famous landmark in there. If not, I'll pick another one....anyone know if Lethal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #3) by Larissa Ione has any famous landmarks in it?

message 81: by Lala (new)

Lala | 335 comments For Famous Landmark I'll read Lost in Time (Blue Bloods, #6) by Melissa de la Cruz

I'll finish my other book in few days. I have been busy this week.

Toni ~married to a hunk~ (tonileigh) Okay team I looked at the spreadsheet and if Laura and Paris clam celebrity soon we will get that extra point. Also if Laura and Sheila clam Mountains/cliffs we will get another point. Let's go ladies we can do this.

message 83: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Can't do much about Mountains/cliffs this time since our item is already a place but next time for sure. It would be great to see the team grab an extra point. I am just about finished with A Death in Vienna and will probably post it later today.

Anything else you would like me to look for specifically Toni?

message 84: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Week 3 - Famous Landmark

A Death In Vienna (Gabriel Allon, #4) by Daniel Silva A Death In Vienna by Daniel Silva Finished 9/16/2012

People - Single Male - Gabriel Allon
Places - FAMOUS LANDMARK - one block from St. Stephen's Cathedral cd 1 track 4
Things - Smoke- wreathed in smoke cd 1 track 1
Colors - Blue- framed by a vibrant blue sky cd 1 track 2

This is #4 in the Gabriel Allon series of books. Gabriel pretty much has 2 jobs. 1 is as an art restorer that provides his cover for his 2nd profession as a spy/assassin. With this book he gets caught up in a conspiracy of a network of Nazi officers that have assumed new lives with significant influence in today's world. I give it ★★★★ 's

message 85: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) Not sure if there is a celebrity in any of my possible books for this week, but I will definitely claim that before anything else if I can. Thanks for looking Toni!

Toni ~married to a hunk~ (tonileigh) I just just keeping an eye out for easy ones that we almost have done soon. Sheila I didn't notice anything else but we will see after this week is posted.

Paris (pah13) Week 3 - Famous Landmark

Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6) by Chloe Neill
Rating: ★★★★★
Finished: 9/16/12

Famous Landmark:Sears Tower AKA Willis Tower page 1
Color: Blue (cover)
Thing: Wheel - "and the slow squeak of a spinning tire" page 19
People: Celebrity - Seth Tate, the former mayor is first mentioned on page 11

I love this series. It's one of my favorite. Merit is an awesome kick-ass heroine. She's been thrust into this life of a vampire and instead of wallowing in self pity she's jumped in with both feet and her katana. She's grown stronger and more awesome throughout the series.

A lot happens in this book and although a ton of things get wrapped up leaving the reader with the question of where they can go next, the very last page definitely paints a very interesting picture about the future of Cadogan House and all of her vampires. This is one of those series where saying too much in a review can spoil things, so I'll just leave it at love this book and it just adds to the greatness that is this series. I will definitely keep reading and recommending the series to everyone I know.

Katherine (katdylan) Ladies I'm reading Almost Perfect by Susan Mallery by Susan Mallery, and the female main character is an known mystery writter. It can fit for the celebrity, since it's mentioned more than once how famous she is.

Katherine (katdylan) WEEK 2 - GREEN

REVIEW:
I read Almost Perfect by Susan Mallery. Almost Perfect tells the story about Liz and Ethan. Liz, she's the girl who was born on the wrong family. Daughter of a prostitute and a drunk, she had to get used to not just being poor, but having the whole town lay her mother's sins on her. While she was sweet and innocent, the girls hated her for being so pretty, and the boys because she didn't give a shit about them. Ethan comes from the family who funded the town, and by being the oldest he learned form the beginning he should be the responsible one, and do the right thing. After a public fight with Ethan, Liz leaves town and only later discover she is pregnant with his child. More than ten years later, she's back in town after discovering she has nieces on a not so good situation. Things between her and Ethan gets pretty tense when he discover about Tyler, his eleven year old son, and from now on they must learn how to be parents, and do what's best for Tyler.

What I liked: Liz. She was a fighter, and she did everything she could to raise her son without help from both hers and Ethan's family. I also like how she progressed to hate the town and its people, to being a part of it.

What I didn't liked: Ethan. He was (for me) totally hate material. He was an insensitive and inconsiderate jerk both in the past and in the present. He was raised to take responsbilities, but this only went so far. He was egoist and could only see his side of things (most of the time) and by this, made himself always the victim.

Favorite Scene: (view spoiler)

Favorite Quote: "To the stupidity of men," Dakota said, raising a glass. "And my brother, who is their king." (This about sums it all)

Conclusion: I liked the story. I love Mallery's books and this wasn't an exception. I really like how she goes and create things that feels so real, like the town and the people and the feelings. I didn't really loved Ethan, but he was okay by the end. I read it okay as a stand alone, and being the second on the series didn't hurt that I haven't read the first. I would totally recommend this book.

Rating: 3.5 Stars.

2. Forest - My fellow changelings and i had been spying on the boy for months, so i knew the contours of my new home at the edge of the forest
3. Child - on the title
4. Wing - Through the open windows a breeze blew across the top of the sheets, and moths beat their wings in retreat from their perches on the window screen

Review: "The Stolen Child" talks about chaseling and a boy, he changed places with. The book shows the life from the chaseling side and boy's side.

I liked the story, but it went little bit too slow for me and i had a hard time to read it, because of it.
