Here's a challenge that changes as the year goes on because you read the current astrological sign for the time period you're in.

What is an astrological sign?
According to Wikipedia, "In Western astrology the zodiac of twelve signs represents twelve types of personality. The zodiac traditionally begins with Aries."

Here are the 12 signs and their respective dates:
July 23 to August 22 - Leo
August 23 to September 22 - Virgo
September 23 to October 23 - Libra
October 24 to November 21 - Scorpio
November 22 to December 22 - Sagittarius
December 23 to January 22 - Capricorn
January 20 to February 19 - Aquarius
February 20 to March 20 - Pisces
March 20 to April 20 - Aries
April 21 to May 20 - Taurus
May 21 to June 21 - Gemini
June 22 to July 22 - Cancer

Just a note: Wikipedia and other sources seem to vary slightly with the dates. I could not find 2 sources who were totally in agreement. The current time frame was gotten from the Wikipedia at:

How do I play?
You read the letters of the sign associated with the time frame you're currently in. The letter must correspond to the first letter of a title, the first letter of an author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first or last name from the book. Just let us know what the link to the letter is if it's not obvious. You may ignore the 'A', 'An', 'The', etc. at the beginning of titles to get to the first significant word. So "The Virgin's Secret" would be a 'V' title and "A Highlander Christmas" would be an 'H' title. (Thanks for the example BJ Rose) Once you get through all the signs you may start over again and read different books or re-read books you've read before. As long as you read. Since our current date falls with the time period of July 23 to August 22 (The sign of Leo) We will read Leo by spelling it out.

Can I have an example, please?

L - Leo (character) Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas
E - Evermore by Alyson Noel
O - Olivia Parker(author) At the Bride Hunt Ball

Leo is a character in the book Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas. His name starts with L so that is the connection. As Lisa also starts with L you could have connected the book to L by using the author's name.

Evermore has an E in it's title and that is it's connection with the letter E.

Olivia Parker is the author of At the Bride Hunt Ball. Her name begins with O so there is the connection to O. If her last name had started with O that could have been used as the connection/link to O.

I don't get it, how does it work? What are the rules?

Will write the rules later when off of my iPad. Hopefully my example made it clearer. You read the letters of the sign associated with the time frame you're dealing with. It can be the title, author, or the name of a character from the book. Just let us know what the link yo the letter is.

Ohhh I get it, your example did it for me. So since I'm a Taurus I'll read books starting with the letters. Got it. Leo is so not fair by the way lol

You almost got it. The current time frame we are in is Leo because it falls between July 23 and August 22, therefore, you should read Leo first. Hmmm. Maybe I'll change the order around and put Leo at the top since that is what we're starting at and then update the rules. I'm still on my iPad so once I post I can't update that post. Thanks for pointing out my error. I usually try to put more information at the top, but I've been making up too many things at one time. I'm getting careless. ;)

Question: We all start with Leo, then on to Virgo, etc., so I get that chain. But is it a requirement that we read them in order - that is, an 'L' book, author, or character, then an 'E', then an 'O', or is the order within the sign optional?

I don't think you have to read them in order. As long as you read the books starting with L E and O (author name or book name) then you're good. Did that answer your question or did I confuse you even more?

That answered it, Sashana - Thanks! The main reason I asked is that darn 'V' popping up so soon - I just read my only 'V' book last week, and my 'V' author before that, so I could just see me coming to a dead stop on Virgo while I figured that one out. But any order within the sign gives more leeway, so that's much appreciated.

Yes. Re-reads are fine.

One more question - are we ignoring 'A', 'An', 'The' at the beginning of titles to get to the first significant word? So The Virgin's Secret would be a 'V' title and A Highlander Christmas would be an 'H' title - or do we count them?

BJ, I think it's best to ignore 'The', 'A' and 'An'. I'll tell Lis to add it to the rules. Thanks for the heads up on that one.

BJ Rose, Did you like The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest? I have that one sitting on my shelf. Got it yesterday from the library. After reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo it took me awhile before I could read The Girl Who Played with Fire. I loved the second book. The first one I liked, but found it a bit disturbing.

Absolutely loved it! Everything comes together and is resolved - it's like Larsson wrote this one big epic and broke it down into 3 sections. Since you loved the second book, you're guaranteed to love this one as well. Go for it!!
