I agree...I liked the history between Creed and Sylvie. It made their HEA so much sweeter. Knight was hot but I couldn't get beyond the 'Daddy' thing and that he was a pimp.

Her storytelling and Alpha heroes are hands down fantastic. I have to give it to her, she writes good falling-in-love stories, the ones you feel in your gut.
Her writing, otoh, is very unpolished, she has some very visible writer tics (her characters all speak alike) and she could do with a good content editor on some of her books.
That said, I had a ball reading her stuff. Afterwards I felt kinda overloaded, like how you feel after eating a very calorie laden, very tasty, very bad-for you meal. You know, a little queasy and a little guilty.
Now she has a professional editor and...I hate to say it because I bitched about it in some of my reviews...but i kind of miss the raw quality of her writing.
If I had to rec a series to start off with, I'd go with her Colorado Mountain series. It is the most consistent, imo.
I can only read KA a little at a time. When I want a little outrageous, a little outlandish, some suspense and an über alpha hero in my romance. But I can't read more than one book back to back because of the reasons mentioned above. I started with the Dream Man series and loved the books. All had a different twist and kept me engaged. As I've read more books by KA, the similarities between the characters are vast...their language, issues etc. some she's even admitted to realizing after the fact herself. KA isn't my fave author, but her books are a lot of fun...I just don't take most things in this genre too seriously.
After I read
I want to read
. I hated the heroine in the sample of the second book, so I am skipping it.
Paganalexandria wrote: "I just started
. I like it so far, but not that far in."Keep us posted on Creed because I loved Knight and want to read Raid but I can't get into Creed for some reason. But if you think that it's pretty good I will go forth and conquer this book.
Deb, I like it but really not connecting to Creed, he is so incidental. I'm developing a big girl crush on Sylvie though. K.A. wrote a note about her love for the heroine, almost changing the name to Sylvie, and it shows. I'm not getting the "squee" feeling
gave me. Plus the worst part of the first book was Knight's job, so centering this book in that world is not helping.
Tamekia wrote: "The Crossfire Trilogy by Sylvia Day... So far so good- about to start Entwined with You!"Tamekia, I just finished Entwined and loved it. I read
and didn't like it at all. It made me read the Crossfire series again just to compare. I ended up upgrading my ratings of Sylvia's books because they really are one of the better FSOG-a-likes out there.
Thanks for the info - I was considering this trilogy as well! So many juicy contemporary romance series- I get so little sleep these days! I have also heard the Stark series by J. Kenner is pretty good in comparison
M.A. wrote: "the crossfire trilogy??? i'm desperate for something good to read!i started reading

Yeah, I haven't heard that many good things about this book. :/
Sylvia Day has a series whose Main character is Gideon Cross- the first on is called Bared to you, second is Reflected in you and the most recent is Entwined with you - check it out, good read...!

I brought this up in another group and someone tried to shut me down for "being to politically correct". It didn't work.
Wow. That's telling that an author would write something so blatantly racist in the 21st century. But our society is moving backwards, it seems.
Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress wrote: "Wow. That's telling that an author would write something so blatantly racist in the 21st century. The person in the other group told me that they are from the UK (where this is based) which have a more open humor and Ava calling Tom gayboy wasn't a gay slur, and she wasn't being racist either. WTF ever.
Don't get me started on Fox News. It's on at the gym and I have to move to avoid accidentally watching it.

On the back of YOUR rec....lol. I shall try one this weekend. Now, mind you I'm basically stalking you at this point to keep myself from getting burned LOL. I just wanna get caught up in a good ROMANCE, kwim? I wanna FEEL what I'm reading. I've actually been into
and honestly its a FANTASTIC read. Its just draining. But Mynx has written a very, VERY solid and even realistic story. I just feel like I have to be careful where I stop for the day/night because the feeling stays with me. That's some good writing that can do that. Just need something to cleanse the palette a bit:)

Savanah, that's funny. LOL
I have had that SM book on my kindle forever, but for some reason never got around to it. Sienna and Aliyah Burke are my go to IR writers. They both are really good at bringing the sexy without sacrificing good story. SM's has some of the most awesomely screwed up thinking heroes in the genre. I don't mind a little moral ambiguity. ;)
BkGurl wrote: "I'll be reading

Paganalexandria wrote: "Sienna and Aliyah Burke are my go to IR writers. They both are really good at bringing the sexy without sacrificing good story
I love Aliyah Burke. I enjoy her heroines, they tend to be a bit quirky and she can tell a story. I honestly have not been able to get into Sienna Mynx's writing voice. I think I've started like 5 of her books only to put them down and and have not felt any urgency to pick them up again. for some reason she doesn't hook me.
Paganalexandria wrote: "Savannah wrote: "On the back of YOUR rec....lol. I shall try one this weekend. Now, mind you I'm basically stalking you at this point to keep myself from getting burned LOL. I just wanna get caught..."LOL, morally ambiguous is the perfect description for most of her male leads. The hero in Before Sunrise definitely fits that description. He's lovable, but the boy is just plain WRONG and backward in a lot of ways.
Tina, I'm actually that way about AB's stuff. I can't...I don't know what the word is for it. Just seems like I can't get lost or let go enough to stop picking every line apart with her stuff. No idea what it is because I actually have gotten a couple of hers totally in love with the premise of the story, but its like emotionally she doesn't make me pull the trigger.
"while i'm pondering my next move, the doors open, revealing the biggest black man i've ever seen. he saunters out to the top of the steps. i physically flinch at the sight of him, stepping back slightly...if i could build a mental image of who i would have expected to walk out of them doors, he, most definitely, would not be it...i'm suddenly slightly concerned that i've turned up at some mafia control centre, and i search my brain trying to remember if i transferred my rape alarm to my new handbag..."Well when I read it I assumed (or was hoping)it was the size of the Black man she was intimidated and fearful of. However, the mistake is how the scene is written.
For instance if the character feels fearful and intimidated enough that her thoughts go immediately of being "raped", then some where in the book she should have been raped in the past by some big "Black" man in order to balance out her reaction and the writer should let that be known before or during the incident.
However, what makes it "feel" racist is when she indicates the heroine "I'm suddenly slightly concerned". Well to follow it up with the thoughts of being raped by this size intimidating Black man is not a "slightly concerned" reaction.
This is a mistake her editor or proofer should have questioned her intentions verses how it's read. As far as her characters other senseless decisions throughout the series...sorry I got nothing...except just like real people sometimes you have stupid characters that do stupid things.
See I felt this way about the female character in
. By the end of that series I completely disliked her. She was too young and Bipolar to be with a f'd up in the head man because of his childhood man like Christian. Yet this woman's made millions. I've determined some successful or popular writers are just lucky as heck! lolRee
I've come back to give my report on
. It was good but the heroine Sylvie is the star of that show. It's 3 1/2 stars. The book I just finished was so good. If you love bad tempered alphas, give
a try. Savannah, the hero Bastian could have totally been a Sienna Mynx anti-hero. :)
I'm currently reading Entwined With You by Sylvia Day and I am having a hard time getting into it so far, hopefully it'll get better.
Tina wrote: "Well, I am in a baseball mood so I just read

? It's a pretty good IRR with a baseball theme.
I had to take a break from the other books I was reading....Right now I'm reading
and so far it's holding my interest.
Drew was a pompous dickwad at the beginning...he gets better tho. I liked Tangled because it felt like a real guy was talking not a woman's voice writing all the stuff that women wish men would do or say.
BkGurl wrote: "Drew was a pompous dickwad at the beginning...he gets better tho. I liked Tangled because it felt like a real guy was talking not a woman's voice writing all the stuff that women wish men would do ..."Bkgurl, see I loved the male point of view in
, but I might not be connecting to the "humor" in this one. It's what made
a DNF for me. I can enjoy a funny book but don't like to be hit over the head with jokes. Wallbanger was funny, but more situational. This starting to feel like reading a stand up monologue of a marginally talented comedienne. Hopefully it will get better.
I see what you mean. For that reason, I'm glad I read Tangled over three nights rather than in one sitting. I guess by the end of a long day, I needed some humor.
I didn't like Futures & Frosting much either. I thought Carter and Claire's story should have ended with book 1 because book 2 just droned on and on with stupidly funny episodes of Gavin's potty mouth, Drew egging on a child with his T-shirts and Carter and Claire just not communicating around what they wanted for 150+ pages, which was a rehash of most of the preceding book's themes for the most part. The first time it was refreshingly humorous, but the second time around it was stale for me.

Just finished The Gamble by Kristen Ashley
. GOOD book, and I only had a few peeves with it. That's actually really good for me LOL. I'm posting a full review with said peeves

Glad you liked it, Pagan! I'm looking to get more of her stuff now, scouring to find the best price. If anybody has any to loan, I'd be forever grateful!
See my sense of humor is really bent, so
worked on every level for me. If you like books from the guy's POV another nice one -- main character also named Drew, btw, is
. Doesn't have the snarky humor of Tangled, but is still amusing. In this one, Drew's ex girlfriend drops their newborn baby on his doorstep before leaving town. So the book is about his bachelor self being a single father.

Bkgurl, you were right,
is getting better.
Glad Tangled grew on you. I think for a debut novel the author did a very good job with it.
BkGurl wrote: "Glad Tangled grew on you. I think for a debut novel the author did a very good job with it."Yeah, it was really good. It stands out in a sea of billionaire/MMA fighter/biker books. I really liked that the characters actually had jobs they worked at during the book. LOL No one does that anymore, ya know ;)
