Ladyamelia | 173 comments I just finished 2 really great books: Arouse (Spiral of Bliss, #1) by Nina Lane and Allure (Spiral of Bliss, #2) by Nina Lane . They aren't light and fluffy by any means but it's a really authentic, emotional love story about a couple facing a rough patch in their marriage.

Robin (robin-alisha) | 209 comments I'm currently reading Rush (Breathless, #1) by Maya Banks . It does has some similarities to Fifty Shades of Grey. But it's still pretty good so far.

TinaNoir | 1456 comments Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase . Only 4 chapters in and this book is cracking me up. Narrated by the male main character he breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to the reader.

Shiree McCarver | 305 comments I'm finally reading Fifty Shades of GreyFifty Shades of Grey and honestly I don't know what all the fuss is about. I personally don't like Christian Grey, but I'm not one of those females who pray at the alter of Alpha Males. I have always found men in the need to control every aspect of their lives impotent in ways that I need him to man up. I guess it's because sex has never been about the sex for me, it has to be and has always been about the intimacy. If I don't have the intimacy of touch, carresses, and the playfullness during the times where sex isn't the objective, I feel disassociated during sex. I don't get pleasure from pain. I suppose when you grew up on the receiving end of the pain in one form or the other. I grew up being in a controlled enviroment. I had to ask permission for everything from cookies in the cookie jar, to afterschool activities. It never occurred to me to want to date or marry into the same situation. So I'm finding Christian Grey, emotionally lacking. Loving a man like this would be too much work, I would spend too much time questioning my reasoning for allowing him to treat me this way, he would dominate too much of my free time even when he wasn't around and I don't want to turn into a circus performer in the bedroom to keep my man happy. I shouldn't have to. Being me as I was when he met me, should make him happy. I'm not a woman in need of a makeover. This man would always make me feel lacking somehow.

I haven't read Fifty Shades, but I've had discussions with others who have read it, and I think we're on the same page, Shiree. I can't stand controlling heroes. My friend asked me to read it, so I will, but I'm not looking forward to it, honestly.

I too read Fifty Shades of Grey, and unfortunately didn't see what all the hype was about. I didn't care for either of the main characters. When it first came out, it was sold out all over the place, so I just knew it would be a good read, but I found it lacking is so many ways- character development, romance, etc...

message 315: by Shiree (last edited May 31, 2013 12:36PM) (new)

Shiree McCarver | 305 comments Well, I'm finding out why Fifty Shades of Grey is so popular. It's not like it more extrodinary than some I have read along the same vein, but I have found it to be like a train wreck, even though it can get ugly and consider they only known each other for a total of 3 weeks in the first book, I find it hard to put it down. Though I'm not into the power struggle, I'm invested in seeing how this will work out. Admittedly, I finding inspite of my initial dislike for Christian, he has great restraint because at times I think Ana is the messed up one because she pushes and pushes to the point I want to beat her too. LOL

I have found book two more enjoyable because I'm coming to care for Christian and the nurturing virgo feels this pull towards him to help him to heal. To be the mother he never had and unfortunately I am Ana character because I know from my last relationship, I dig and dig, push and push until a man don't feel there is anything left of himself that he can keep to himself. I don't know if it's a driven need for every woman, of just a woman that is in love.

I'm finding that this series allow for alot of inner reflections of how far are you willing to go out of your comfort zone for another person's happiness when you find out their happy factor is a bit twisted? Not everyone is blessed with an ideal beginning. We all probably have some f'd up moments in our past that has influenced our sexuality.

Rush was a 4. It was still more of that "We haven't been going out that long but I'm insanely in love with you" stuff. Fever is along the same vein but to the extreme, like the male character literally just meets the female character. I mean they're good and enjoyable but not necessarily as much as other stuff. I think I'd wait to see if the price dropped some more before getting them, honest opinion.

I'm reading Fever (Breathless, #2) by Maya Banks and Broken by Megan Hart .
