Rachael C. (norcalbibliophile) Lisa Kay, I only have time to squeeze in one book and I think it's going to be chosing one from your all-time favorite list. It's a tough decision, though. Can you narrow to down to 5 of your very very favorites so I can really get the most authentic Lisa Kay experience possible?

In the past, I have started A Discovery of Witches but like you, I put it down before finishing it. Granted, I liked the richness of Ms. Harkness' writing but it was just so darn slow going! I saw in your review that there was a point where you fell in love with the book. May I ask if you remember how far into it you were when you knew for certain you wanted to keep reading to finish?

Okay...but let me think on it, Rachael. Do you want top five, with a mix of genre...or top five romances?

That is a book that I've considered reading. I tried reading Dewey The Small Town Library Cat and could NOT get through the book. I only got about 60 pages read. So I'm a little unsure on another animal book right now....

How about a mix? Where some of them are easy to find since I rely so heavily on my library! :-)

Get the book Jennifer:-). You will not be disappointed. It is so much more than an "animal" book. You will laugh out loud, and cry and probably do both at the same time. It is about persistence and not giving up and dealing with what life gives you and staying in the race when it would be so much easier to just drop out. (The Art of Racing in the Rain.)

message 65: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Great, Rabaab & Tamsyn!! Welcome to the party.

message 66: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Okay, Rachael C. Let me think. Here are a couple of my all time favs to start off:

Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison Smooth Talking Stranger (Travises, #3) by Lisa Kleypas (which is part of a series...#3, in fact...so don't tell anyone I'm recommending you read it out of order)

message 67: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments So neat this is your first challenge, Tamsyn! Well, I would start with the level you want to do. Then think of some of the books you want to read and see if they meet the criteria I posted.

Thanks, Cathie! I think I will pick it up and give it a try sometime in September. I have about eight books out from the library now, and two that are on hold for me. So once I drop some of those off I will pick up The Art of Racing in the Rain. I'm not against books about animals, but there just has to be *more* to the book, ya know?

message 70: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Jennifer, yep I know :-). I'm pretty sure you will really like this one & if you don't you can take it back and it won't have cost you a cent. The bliss of libraries :-).

Barb Cathie wrote: "I'm pretty sure you will really like this one & if you don't you can take it back and it won't have cost you a cent. The bliss of libraries :-)."

That's what I keep telling our library patrons: If you think you might like a book, by all means, take it home and give it a shot. If you like it, great! If not, bring it back and try something else. All it costs you is a bit of your time! (I'm not factoring in the cost of gas to/from the library, since these are people who are there all the time anyhow LOL)

message 74: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Argh...I need a library card for this! I usually buy all the books I read on nook, but if I'm going to start doing challenges then it will get too expensive fast!

message 75: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I just went and got my library card this morning :-). I am like you Lucy, but I have a really big reading list this month so the ones I can get at the library I will and the ones that have 1200+ holds on them (!) I will buy, lol.

message 76: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (thebookienook) | 60 comments For the longest time I didn't use my library card, I was buying all of the books/ebooks for challenges... expensive! So now I use my library card a lot. I'm like you, Cathie, I buy ones I *really* want to read if they have a lot of holds on them.
