The story is about a serious-natured microbiologist who brings his unfaithful wife to a distant area where a cholera epidemic has taken place. This brilliant piece of literature by W. Somerset Maugham has been adapted into a beautiful film also in 2006, starring Naomi Watts and Edward Norton. I liked that one very much.
