(M+F) It seems that most heroes ( 95-98%) in post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books are either some sort of former/ex military or still in some way connected to the military. At least from the searching I have done in the genre so far. I really want to find post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books with heroes that have Nothing to do with the military either in their present or in their past and that they have had or have any other kind of job/profession than anything to do with the military. I also want to find post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books with heroines that are NOT the typical heroine in her early 20’s or younger…. I want to find post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books with heroines that are preferably 30+ or older. Preferably also NOT a bigger age difference than 10 years between the main characters (it seems that most post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books have a couple where the hero is much older than the heroine and that is NOT what I am looking for.) I also always prefer to read about smart and capable heroines.
I really just want to find post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books that are NOT formulaic and that are well written with interesting and NOT formulaic plots or main characters.
Are there any post apocalyptic/apocalyptic romance books like that out there? Something different or/and with authors that think outside the box?
Please DO NOT add recommendations that are from the Omegaverse genre. Please DO NOT add recommendations with reverse harem, poly romance, menage. Just M+F couples. ...more
RainYes, Claire Kent loves that older man age gap in her apocalyptic stories. I wish I had some other recs for you! It’s one of my favorite genres, but diYes, Claire Kent loves that older man age gap in her apocalyptic stories. I wish I had some other recs for you! And it seems like many other authors think and do the same in this genre and with M+F couples/pairings. This genre also seems to have a very frequent and widespread use of the heroes in this genre being military or ex/former military… and hardly any other backgrounds/professions or just ordinary survivors just trying to survive… which is very formulaic. The “funny” thing is that it seems to be only or mostly the M+F romances/couples in this genre that are written like that. The books I have found (and added some) that either have similar aged couples or older than 25 or 30… are mostly M+M and F+F couples and also some poly/FMM…. Even if there is many of these couples and triads/throuples that also have age gaps and a few that have bigger age gaps it is not as prevalent as in M+F couples/pairings. And Yes, from what I gather (looking/searching in other places etc.) many of us are looking for the same. Many of us are looking for some variation and diversity to the main characters in this genre....more

Diversity and inclusion is something that is important to me on all levels…. Including in romance books and the romance genre… but also other fiction books/genres.
All different kinds of representation are really important and matter. (Size, age, abilities, ethnicity, race, sexuality etc. etc.)
So much more representation is needed in the romance genre but also better and positive representation... and sincere/genuine representation of diversity/inclusion.
Research is always a author's best friend! It makes for a better and more believable book/plot but also better and more believable characters.
If these things above ⬆️ are important to you or at least on your radar that is great… If not consider just following my reviews.
I have created 44 different lists on Goodreads Listopia.... Maybe take a look.🙂
