I want a fantasy that has a strong romance presence but the romance isn't actually the focal point (if that makes sense). Preferably, people trying to overthrow a regime, rebel, or just a classic good vs evil trope. The last book I read was "This Woven Kingdom" by Tahereh Mafi and it wasn't bad just not what I thought I was getting when I went into it.
Please see list below for more details :)
A book with:
- a real plot and story FIRST, romance SECOND - found family - Strong Female MC - Strong Male MC that has a brain and isn't just the FMC partner - Fight against an overwhelming evil or bad guy that's actually evil and not just misunderstood (unless he's the love interest and even then give me morally grey/anti hero vibes please) - No main character deaths, but I'm fine with MC's family/friend (make it hurt) - Magic is cool but if its the MC's first time using please have a period of him/her actually LEARNING how to use it. (it's a weird pet peeve) - NO WEREWOLVES / VAMPIRES (I'd like not to go back to that era of my life thank you kindly) - No insta love please, like I'm okay with destined to be as long as it's not explicably told they're destined to be - No super slow burns (I do not want to be on book three of a trilogy before they realize their feelings for each other) - Enemies to lovers is cool but they have to be believable enemies until at least halfway in the book - world building needs to be incredibly well done and please little to no 2D characters (extra points if the side characters have their own lives/romances as well) - Dark romance vibes are cool but no r*pe or SA please (major trigger)
AND ABOVE ALL NOOOOOO LOVE TRIANGLES (unless it's a why choose then gimme gimme gimme)
I may be asking for too much here (and possibly may need to try writing my own book at this point) but please, I'm desperate to feel something again....more
