I started with Poison Princess . The book is somewhat of a twist. It starts one way, but don't be fooled, but by chapter 13 the whole story becomes something else. But further this book gets, it keeps on rolling like a snowball leaving you desperate for more. I started with Poison Princess . The book is somewhat of a twist. It starts one way, but don't be fooled, but by chapter 13 the whole story becomes something else. But further this book gets, it keeps on rolling like a snowball leaving you desperate for more. Kresley Cole doesn't drop you into a book, she takes you on a journey and everything has a purpose. Also the further into this series you get the more complicated the relationships get. Here's a trailer for the book. http://www.thearcanachronicles.com/

Into the Darkness this fits your criteria. I wasn't as fond of the first books as was for all the books after. It was still good, but it took a bit to get there.

Running With Alphas: Volume 1 This a series but Rivard finally put it together into a bundle. It's less expensive. It's weak though in what you're looking for. But I thought i would throw it out there.

For the Historic genre:

The Virgin Proxy It's a high match for what you're looking for. It's saucy though.

Duke of Desire Is also a possibility it's less saucy and weaker on the thing you're looking for. But again I thought I'd through it out.

One last one:

Gas or Ass This is a Contemporary. This does fit what You're looking for but you don't get to figure it out until the the second book. This is a raunchy series. I found the first book a little hard to get through. But the second made up for it and blew away any thing I disliked about the first book. Mainly because it explains the reasoning for it. The third final book wraps everything up in a big mushy bow.

Some of these books you can get at the library (The Arcana Chronicle - Poison Princess and maybe The Duke of Desire). That way you don't have to spend too much on them. Out of all of these, I think the Virgin Proxy fits your description of what you're looking for. But you might be looking for something with a nit more drama. However, the author does put this e-book on sale for free from time to time. You may want to wait for it to go on sale.

Hope this helps. ...more "
