Fantasy is my favourite and most read genre, I love it in all forms and I even read most subgenres, but my favourites are high and epic fantasy. I have a love for traditional fantasy that now we all call "cliche" but in my opinion it's some of the best; elves, dwarves and all kinds of mythical creatures should find their way back into the fantasy genre as well as some active hard or soft magic systems and consist character development throughout each book of a series. What I've found lacking the most in current fantasy books is exactly that: magic, creatures and character development. A book doesn't need to be labeled "character-driven" to have detailed and complex character arcs, these should be a given.
What I love the most is finding books/series like The Faithful and the Fallen and The Licanius trilogy which give off traditional (clichéd) fantasy vibes written in a modern style with good diversity in it.
I prefer plot-driven to character-driven books but my all time favourite is when a book has both a plot- and character-driven story because this is when I'm invested the most. I also believe it's the best combination because it satisfies both types of readers.
My all time favourite series is The Stormlight Archive and I'm yet to find one that's better.
My favourite authors are Brandon Sanderson, Sebastien de Castell and John Gwynne. Matthew Ward, S. A. Chakraborty, James Islington and Lyn Flewelling are slowly making their way to my faves as well.
