    Lauren Oliver
“I shiver, thinking how easy it is to be totally wrong about people-to see one tiny part of them and confuse it for the whole, to see the cause and think it's the effect or vice versa”
    Lauren Oliver, Before I Fall

    George Eliot
“We could never have loved the earth so well if we had had no childhood in it, if it were not the earth where the same flowers come up again every spring that we used to gather with our tiny fingers as we sat lisping to ourselves on the grass, the same hips and haws on the autumn hedgerows, the same redbreasts that we used to call ‘God’s birds’ because they did no harm to the precious crops. What novelty is worth that sweet monotony where everything is known and loved because it is known?”
George Eliot, The Mill on the Floss

    Amanda Lovelace
    “if you
    don't want to
    end up in
    someone else's
    poem,
    then maybe
    you should
    start
    treating
    people
    better
    for
    a
    change.

    - an unapologetic poet.”

    Amanda Lovelace
    “the love
    some girls
    have for
    other girls
    is
    so gentle
    & so soft
    & so fucking
    beautiful,
    &
    these girls
    deserve
    to have
    better stories
    than the ones
    where they
    are murdered
    because they love
    with too much
    of their
    hearts.

    -love is never a weakness.”
Amanda Lovelace, The Princess Saves Herself in This One

    Jazz Jennings
“I never would have been able to tell!” I was finally able to put my finger on it, and it’s something that anyone who is meeting a transgender person for the first time should keep in mind. Saying you “never would have known” is actually very rude. Being surprised that a person looks like the gender they are just reinforces a stereotype that transgender people aren’t usually attractive or able to pass, and worse, the stereotype that physical appearances even matter. A person’s true essence comes from within! I”
Jazz Jennings, Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen

“There's nothing wrong with you. There's a lot wrong with the world you live in. And definitely get out of high school and make everyone sorry.”

“If you can't laugh when things go bad--laugh and put on a little carnival--then you're either dead or wishing you were.”

    “ah, life—
    the thing
    that happens
    to us
    while we’re off
    somewhere else
    blowing on
    dandelions
    & wishing
    ourselves into
    the pages of
    our favorite
    fairy tales.”
Amanda Lovelace, The Princess Saves Herself in This One

    a woman
    is to
    identify

    Jazz Jennings
“The homicide rate for transgender women in America hit a historic high in 2015, according to the Human Rights Campaign, even with all the current support and visibility. Almost all of them were women of color, and the number killed was twenty-one as of November 2015—that’s basically two people a month, and the real number is likely to be even higher due to unreported cases. Worldwide it’s much worse: Between 2008 and 2014, there were 1,731 reported murders. That’s really terrifying, and a huge reason why I continue to be a public advocate and keep speaking out. Change happens through understanding, and one of my biggest hopes is that our next generation of kids will grow up in a world with more compassion.”
Jazz Jennings, Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen

    Stephen King
“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”
    Stephen King, Different Seasons

  • #26
    Stephen King
“The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them—words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they’re brought out.”
    Stephen King, Different Seasons
