I really had to think about this one because most of the books I read are adventure, horror or fantasy. But then I remembered Rachel the witch from Kim Harrison's "Hollows" series. I got really invested in her and Trent's relationship for a while. Also, there's a book called "Dime Store Magic" by Kelley Armstrong. I really liked the relationship between the nerdy, but persistent lawyer and the witch, Paige. Both those relationships have a lot of suspense in them.
