But then I remembered Rachel the witch from Kim Harrison's "Hollows" series. I got really invested in her and Trent's relationship for a while. Also, there's a book called "Dime Store Magic" by Kelley Armstrong. I really liked the relationship between the nerdy, but persistent lawyer and the witch, Paige. Both those relationships have a lot of suspense in them. (less)

Whenever my mind is at rest, like driving or in the shower or falling asleep, my characters start interacting. I usually have a notepad (or a napkin or a receipt) around and jot down what I saw them doing or heard them saying, then the next time I'm at my computer, I start fleshing it out. (less)
