I think Roth used racism as one of the main themes to show readers that racism is a universal concept and no matter who it is directed towards it is wrong. I live in a very diverse area and grew up with all kinds of racism, even racism against whites (and yes thats a thing). In the book it has racism on both sides even against the white protagonist, calling him weak and thin skinned. long story short I wouldn't not read the book just because of the bad blog posts and all the bad press it is getting, I overall loved the book and almost didn't read it because I heard it is a "racist book". I would read it yourself if you are intrigued, after all the coolest thing about people is we all think and see things differently!!!! (less)
