Goodreads asked Melinda Clayton:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Melinda Clayton That's a hard one because there are all sorts of benefits to being a writer. If I had to choose one, I'd probably say the best thing is the challenge of taking all the parts and pieces - the plot, subplot, character development, etc. - and putting them together into a whole, coherent story. It's a fun challenge.
