Goodreads asked Ravi Nirmal Sharma:

How do you get inspired to write?

Ravi Nirmal Sharma My writing came from angst of being rejected at many levels. Average looks. Average physique. Average academics. Nothing to show in the extra-curricular activities. Like every teenager, I did many things to impress people, but fell flat on my face. Until I realized that in being a jack of all trades I was becoming a master of other people's fun. Studies were a must and so I asked what was the one thing I could really do well in place of - Body building, marathon running, poetry writing, vocal music, guitar playing, cycling, badminton, aping actors - the long long list of a me too.

And the one thing I seemed to be good at was writing. I mean above average. So I said only writing from today. Nothing else. And the rest is the story (let's see if I can add his in front of story).
