I realized this morning that your "Rules of Civility" is the book I've most often recommended this year. I read it last year, then convinced my book club to read it this fall so I could take my time with it to savor the gorgeous language, to enjoy the storytelling and complex characters, to appreciate the subtle hints along the way. Just wanted to say "Thank you" for this gift. (Apparently, my "question" needs a ?)

Just finished A Gentleman in Moscow for my book club and absolutely loved it! I was wondering why the Count didn't flee to Paris with Sofia? Is it because he loved his country so much that he didn't want to leave it permanently? Maybe it is because the last time he left his sister died and he didn't get a proper goodbye? Or, did he just want to ride off into the sunset with Anna after seeing the mansion again?

I have 2 parts left of your book and I can't bear to leave it. I am completely enamoured of the wonderful count and his marvellous behaviour. It is a book that makes us want to be better versions of ourselves. Were you really in investment banking? Perhaps you could give some lessons in business schools and Ivy league colleges to people of privilege as to how to wear their privilege with humility and dignity?
