Daniel asked:

I was so disappointed with Grisham's last novel I actually STOPPED reading it. I've never done that with him before. I am gun shy about getting his new one. Any thoughts?

Penny Eh. Very disappointed in the last 30 pages or so. It's like he got tired of writing and just said, "So this is what happened." All narrative. The last chapter is a waste as well. Sounds like he had a time limit and stopped typing when the bell rang in the middle of a paragraph. Story is somewhat interesting. Characters not so much.
Jane Turner Totally agree. It all seemed so predictable. Think maybe once authors have a name they cash in on their fame & their writing becomes mediocre. Haven't read a good Grisham one for a while
Maureen O'Connor Skip this one, It has no real suspense and less character development. The story is predictable. I agree with another comment on the ending- just a recitation of what happened next to sum up and hand in the manuscript.
Matt see my review - good, fun read, but defiantly not his best effort - I agree with Penny below - lot's of info and wrap up in the epilogue. It does sound like he got tired of writing it and did a summary to close it out!

BUT, I still liked this one - was a fun read over a long holiday weekend.

In my opinion one of his best since "The Firm" which was my all time favorite. Honestly I wouldn't have read this book had it not been a Christmas gift for me. So glad I received it as a gift from my Nephew and his family or I would have missed out. What a roller coaster ride and I loved the characters. Grisham is on the top of his game again!!
Herschel Don't bother. Very disappointing. Unsatisfying. Agree with previous post that the ending seems like it was added without any thought to be sure the loose ends were tied up. Would try something else.
Ruthie Sorry to say, give it a miss. Have just put up a review. Go and do something more thrilling instead. Such as picking dog hairs off a much loved jumper. Or counting cracks in the pavement. Sigh.
Leanna Mattea I have loved every Grisham book. This was different, as the characters were lawyers, working for the judicial review. They were investigating a complaint of an unethical judge. I found it very interesting, and enjoyed it!
Susan Well, don't buy it because you'll read it only once.
Lots of slow exposition but then the pace picks up.
No question that justice will prevail; the only question is how it will be done.
No great ethical dilemmas.
Teresaaaa read it, was a big disappointment, started good, hooked me in, then boring. Keep thinking there was going to be a twist or a surprise and nothing. In the back of my book was a chapter or so from the next book Camino Island, which too wasn't great, so i kept thinking there's more, it gets better.....
Francine I think he's getting tired of writing. I'm going to skip him from here on out - and I was a devoted follower - unless I hear that he's got some dynamite stuff going on. The last two, The Whistler and Gray Mountain, were very disappointing. Whistler was better so I hold a modicum of hope. But there are SO may good books out there, why bother?
Toni I have enjoyed many of his books, especially the earlier ones. The last few have been a disappointment read. This one was weak throughout but I have to agree with other readers who felt the ending was just written to get it to the editor on time.
Chris I am glad I found this page. I thought it was a well written book but I feel the ending was disappointing. I thought there was an opportunity for more satisfaction on the demise of the villians. The ending seemed rushed and I was very disapointed. This is at least the second Grisham novel that has left me feeling this way.
Catherine The story line could have been flushed out and more suspenseful. Other works are much stronger and developed.
Kelleyn this book is fantastic! Couldn't put it down. Very believable story line! Sad that is is only being made into a short story made for tv as it would definately do well on the big screen.
Cathy B I agree with Penny about the last pages, but I other than that, I thought it was very good.
