How do you choose a characters name? Are they personal or chosen at random?

Katie McGarry Hi Emma,

Sometimes I throw a dart at a baby name book. Sometimes I go on Twitter and ask for suggestions. Other times there is a meaning to the name.

I chose the name West (Take Me On) because West doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere. He is a drifter trying to find his home. I heard a song lyric by Toby Keith that said: go west young man haven't you been told California's full of whiskey, woman, and gold.

This described his personality to me and I love the transient feel of the name West.

Readers will learn the meaning to Noah's name in Breaking the Rules.
