Alyssa asked:

Does anyone know if the graphic novel that Nina gives out called Fore Girl is an actual book? It's mentioned in Ch. 18 and it sounds awesome, but I can't find it anywhere. Did the author make it up or does it actually exist? Thank you!!

Valerie Campbell Ackroyd I was so disappointed that so many of the books she mentions don't really exist. Like the Russian translation of "We Are All Big Girls Now." I wanted to get it for my 30-something young mother friends :(
Susan Well darn - that Rooftops one was the one I wanted to read. Maybe she needs to write it...
Coffee Break "Nina mentions MANY books, authors, and even famous literary characters. Some of them include: Little Women, The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Lark Rise to Candleford trilogy, the Outlander series, Nancy Drew, Moll Flanders, Fair Stood The Wind For France, Georgette Heyer, Norah Lofts, All Creatures Great and Small, the Faraway Tree books, the Harry Potter Series, Swallows and Amazons, and My Life as an Astronaut. Unfortunately, the book most frequently mentioned in this novel, the children’s story Up on the Rooftops, is entirely fictional."

Monica Bond-Lamberty The author said she made that up and most of the non-classic texts including the Rooftops one.
Julie Darn. I wanted to read that one, too!
Cheryl I wanted to find out more about The Heart Shattered Glass, but it's one of the fake ones. Dang. I really don't like that Colgan made up books to torture us. I also don't like the references that I don't get, like to characters... up until a few years ago I didn't know who Elizabeth Bennet was and I still don't 'know' her well enough to know what an allusion to her means.
Patricia I too went searching for the book " Up on the Rooftop".
Ann I think many of the books are fictitious, but some well known obvious real ones. It seemed she made up some reading genres too. What exactly would a “space cowboy” book be like I wonder? :)
Dee Nope. It's made up, just like a lot of other books she mentions. Too bad bc it sounds awesome! The confusing thing is that she also mentions real books from time to time.
Carolina Peña Could it be that the author is foreshadowing the title of books to come?
Julie oh so sad about "Up on the Rooftops". I was thinking that was one I had missed with my children and I wanted to find it! - sounded in the vein of "The Wind Boy" by Ethel Cook Eliot. (and I think her "the House Above the Trees" too)
