Hi Misty, I just finished your book and was very moved by your story and I think you are incredibly brave for having the ability to write about your experiences. I was curious about one thing. Have you ever tried to find your biological father? I know in the book you said you felt safe when you were with him even though the memories are distant

Hello Kristina
Yes, I did start to look for my father once. I made a couple of phone calls then stopped. I got kind of scared that maybe I would not like what I found out about him. Don't know if that makes any sense to you or not.
My mother was only 15 when my brother was born and my father was in his mid-twenties and married to her mother at the time ( what a mess!!)...... Also, I know that he sold drugs and was an alcoholic. I overheard this from different sources as a small child so I just did not want to tarnish those few memories that I have.
When my mom went to AZ to pick up Fanny her mom told her that my dad was in prison. I am pretty sure this is true because she was whispering it to Brian. All in all, my dad was great to us, his daughters, but I don't think I could handle finding out about yet another family member who is a criminal. Hope that makes sence.

Have you ever gone to therapy? If not, I would greatly suggest it. Whilst a therapist may never be able to understand the elements of the Amish, they do understand the reality of pain and evil in this world. Evil people make the concious choice every day to be evil, so please do not take it upon yourself to suffer for their sins. The strength you show in face of this all is truly inspiring.

Misty, I am so impressed with your story; especially that you maintained your faith in Jesus, and your love for Him when so many people brutalized you in His name. I am a pastor with a sizeable Amish community around me. Several of my parishioners are friends with the Amish. How can I best serve people in the Amish community that might be enduring trauma similar to yours?
