Misty, I am so impressed with your story; especially that you maintained your faith in Jesus, and your love for Him when so many people brutalized you in His name. I am a pastor with a sizeable Amish community around me. Several of my parishioners are friends with the Amish. How can I best serve people in the Amish community that might be enduring trauma similar to yours?

Hi Jeff
This is a question I get quite often. Unfortunately, it is very hard to answer. The difficulty lies in the fact that Amish are taught that the outside world is evil and even if someone tries to talk to an Amish person about anything that is against church rules, they are taught to block it out and try not to listen.
The absolute best way to try and help someone is to show by example. Show you are trustworthy, kind, dependable and mingle amongst the Amish. If someone is looking for help they will hear about people like this and try to find a way to get to them. I know I would have. The only person I had was Karen, even though she was a felon, I trusted her way more than anyone in my community because she seemed to be a human being above anything else. Amish are Amish above anything else and you can not get help from someone who will just recite the church rules back to you like a robot.
Blessings and thanks so much for caring !!!

I really want to thank you for telling the truth. I grew up in abusive foster home and I hurt so much inside knowing that there are people are there that have been hurt the same way I have. I'm so happy to see you thriving and that gives me hope that eventually I can leave the past behind and move on. My question is, did you go to therapy eventually and have your panic attacks dissipated?

Hi Misty, I just finished your book and was very moved by your story and I think you are incredibly brave for having the ability to write about your experiences. I was curious about one thing. Have you ever tried to find your biological father? I know in the book you said you felt safe when you were with him even though the memories are distant

Hi Misty, I just wanted to say that reading your book made a great emotional effect on me. I admire your bravery so much and I can hardly fathom that you held on to such care for others when you yourself were so criminally treated. I have decided that all I can do is pray for the divine intervention of other children that you were given from that lady who left you books to read. God wrap his arms around you, I pray?
