I really want to thank you for telling the truth. I grew up in abusive foster home and I hurt so much inside knowing that there are people are there that have been hurt the same way I have. I'm so happy to see you thriving and that gives me hope that eventually I can leave the past behind and move on. My question is, did you go to therapy eventually and have your panic attacks dissipated?
Misty Griffin
So sorry to hear what happened to you. Unfortunately these types of abuse are to common. I always wonder why if you were to hit an adult it would be assault but if you beat a child who is smaller and defenseless it is merely shrugged away?
I did go talk to a counselor, but only a couple of times and it was not real therapy more like a discussion. I am however planning to start going regularly soon. I guess I felt I need to be strong for so long and needing someone to help made me feel week. ( I know this is mental I am a total advocate for people to get therapy). I feel I am now ready now and am looking forward to starting therapy.
The panic attacks have subsided some but are still there. I think what helped me the most was falling in love and starting school , working with charities etc. I have kept so busy that I do not get quite so many flashbacks anymore.
I do hope you will be able to overcome your past. Just know if you do not you are doing exactly what your abuser wanted for you. These people are so miserable and they want everyone else to be miserable as well. I say laugh in their face and do the opposite, don't let them win. Who are they anyway? With the experience you have in abusive foster homes you could help others who have suffered the same, this would not only help them but also help you heal. It proves there is good in the world and that is what makes us heal and feel hope again.
Best wishes

Misty Griffin:
An inspiring read that sheds light on a closed community where victims are completely powerless to speak out. Were Brian and your Mamma ever investigated or charged for abuses against you, Samantha, your Aunt Fanny or your Grandma? What are they doing now and did they react to the book?

This is the rest of my comment, since I am too wordy for the space allowed! I’d love to see you write a sequel, letting us know how things are going for you now, and what God is doing in your life. And what has become of dear Fanny? As your sister in Christ, I am so, so happy to see how you were able to cling to God through all the horrors, knowing He had a real plan for you. Blessings on you, dear sister!
