Goodreads asked Rob Armstrong:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rob Armstrong Write the kind of book you would actually read! Don't try to focus group or imitate what is hot in the market right now. Have a central question or goal to your story with which readers can connect. Ask the question - why would a reader bother to take the time to read your book when they could watch TV, play on the internet or walk to dog. What is the compelling element of your story.
