Hi Wilma:
I'm so glad you enjoyed the book.
I have been kicking around some ideas for a second adventure with Nick, Liz and the girls - something in the suburbs perhaps, but right now I beginning to do some research on another project which seems exciting right now. I think Daddy 3.0 will make an appearance at some point in the future, but I'm going to wait until the creative energy percolates some more on my ideas for him.
Thanks so much for your interest.
Take care
Rob

Hi Leif:
Yes this is my first book. It is something I have been working on over the last couple of years. I was motivated to write it because I love reading books and wanted to give it a go at writing one, and I experienced a lot of funny things while learning the ropes of being a stay at home dad. I hope to write more books and see where the adventure takes me. Thanks for entering the contest. I hope you enjoy Daddy 3.0: A Comedy of Errors. Take care.

I got the idea when I suddenly thought about all the crazy fun stuff that I experienced as a stay at home parent. There is not that many fun fiction novels about raising young kids. I was not the type to read the formal "perfect parent" manuals.

If an idea is something I think about when I'm not trying to write that is usually the one that motivates me to write. So if you are day dreaming about something, and it persists, that might be a good place to start in terms of writing.

Good question - I don't know yet. I have about 4 or 5 ideas for my next novel. I'm trying to figure out what I actually want to be thinking about for the next year and a half. I'm thinking about a science fiction thriller, a YA action book, a fantasy trilogy, a romantic comedy or a horror story. (I'm all over the map right now.) Just finished Daddy 3.0, and so I'm in the incubation phase.

Write the kind of book you would actually read! Don't try to focus group or imitate what is hot in the market right now. Have a central question or goal to your story with which readers can connect. Ask the question - why would a reader bother to take the time to read your book when they could watch TV, play on the internet or walk to dog. What is the compelling element of your story.

You are the master of the world you create. You can make it a happy place or a dark place, or something in between. You control all the characters that inhabit the world - are they a force for good or evil? You are free of the restrictions the real world has in place. You can unlock your imagination and in one sentence you can create something that potentially lives in the minds of your readers forever. So if you want to have your characters inhabit a large, ornate, stone fortress that took a thousand years to build from stones quarried in volcano rock, you can do it in a few words. No need to raise the money for construction, apply for building permits or fight with the zoning commissioner over why the moat needs to be bigger than the architectural plans said it would be.

Writer's block is a tricky thing. When you don't feel the creative juice its best to not write, but if you do it long enough you lose energy for the project and stale writing is the result. Chicken and the egg situation. My suggestion is to give yourself a set time - 20 to 30 minutes - and just write anything. Avoid the inner editor telling you its not good. If your creative energy is not coming that day after the time you set aside, just stop. Another suggestion is to use the time when your not writing to flesh out an idea or plot element in your head so that by the time you get to the "typewriter" your ready to jump through the gate and write. Again, tricky situation to overcome.
