David Watkins asked Mark Lawrence:

With an already written trilogy by a popular author, what is the thinking behind the scheduling of the release of volumes? No criticism should be inferred as none is intended. I am just interested.

Mark Lawrence Publishers like to release a book a year. It gives a series time to build an audience, making the release of later books more of an event and more likely to hit bestselling lists and attract more readers.

Also, having a buffer of written books minimizes the risk of keeping readers waiting longer than a year if a later book proves difficult to complete on that schedule.
