Greg Louderback
Greg Louderback asked Mark Lawrence:

I'm not a scientist but I do have a better than average grasp on the way that science affects our daily world. So to me when I read science fiction I think to myself that many of the premises I could see one day coming to pass. But the way you present the magic in your tales, it seems like it's a byproduct of science. I know that you have a much greater understanding of science and AI, is magic a byproduct of science?

Mark Lawrence Science is simply the study of what is. If there is 'magic' then it's part of what is, and the methodical/logical/structured study of it is science.
