George Wilson the police radio has gps on it. That was deliberately mentioned early on. So, assuming his radio went with him, they would know where he was.
The same goes for his personal mobile.
Don't forget the hospital finds out the girl has been taken so that would start the whole process.

Or, the author just made a mistake.
