Maryna asked Joanne Harris:

I thought Chocolat was set in the time my parents or even grandparents were children. I was probably affected by the movie. I'm reading The Lollipop Shoes right now and I read about digital cameras and laptops. So I guess I must have gotten the timeline wrong. But I wonder whether I did, or if this was a part of your brilliant storytelling? My interpretation of this is too long for GR. Thank you for your books.

Joanne Harris I think that yes, you might have been affected by the way the movie portrayed the story: but if you look closely you'll see that the novel of CHOCOLAT also mentions modern technology, though not quite in the same way as LOLLIPOP SHOES, where the Paris setting makes for a more urban scenario. Actually, the Vianne books are all more or less set at the time of publication, give or take a year or so...
