Hi there! It's great you'e enjoying the cookbook: over here we have a sadly small selection of chillies (which are my all-time favourite ingredient), so I guess you can just choose whichever you have available depending on how hot you'd like it to be (I like habaneros, but they're not always available.) Happy cooking! x

Hi Lorna,
My path to publication was 30 years ago, and took 3 years. Though the options nowadays are more varied nowadays, I'm afraid they haven't got any easier. You'll find some details on my website at joanne-harris.co.uk, and a lot more in my book, TEN THINGS ABOUT WRITING. Good luck!

(view spoiler)[Hi, hi! I'm a younger fan of yours, and I love the books you write, particularly the Chocolat series. I just have three questions regarding Zozie from The Girl with No Shadow/The Lollipop Shoes. And also, sorry if these are questions that have already been answered in the books.
1. What was in that box she smashed?
2. Is she genuinely devoid of love?
3. If she and Vianne worked together, would it work out? (hide spoiler)]

Hi there!
I'm so glad you liked the books. To answer your questions:
1. I think you have to decide for yourself what was in the box (that's the mystery:-)
2. No, I don't think anyone is wholly devoid of love, but Zozie is incapable of putting another person's needs before her own.
3. It wouldn't work out unless one of them changed her nature fundamentally (and I'm not sure that's possible).
Hope this helps! J x

Take your time. Read widely, in as many genres as you can. Enjoy what you do. Develop your skills at the speed at which you develop your personality. And don't put what you write online unless you're still happy to be judged on it in ten years' time.

Well, there's Runemarks and Runelight, which are basically all about Loki, but yes, I do hope I can get to write another one some day...

First; it doesn't really matter which order you read them in, but technically, BLUEEYEDBOY happens after DIFFERENT CLASS. Second: You'll find out more about the title when you read it...

(view spoiler)[Hi, I just finished A Narrow Door and I absolutely loved it! Such great twists all the way. I want to ask you, can you confirm that when they were searching for Conrad they did not use dogs? Because when it was revealed where the body was, I thought the police would have searched that place and dogs would probably have smelled the body even through the suitcase. But if they didn't use dogs it makes sense. (hide spoiler)]

It would, wouldn't it? :-)

Hi Jay, I'm so happy you enjoyed HONEYCOMB: when it came out I was sending signed postcards to readers, but there are only a few left. If you'd like one, send your contact details to my website address, and buy me a coffee to pay postage. (Or two coffees if you're outside the UK.) I'll send one straight out. x
Joanne Harris
Yes, it can absolutely stand alone; but if you then want to expand the world and know more about the characters, you can read the other two (which also stand alone).
Joanne Harris
I am, yes: I was brought up on her Claudine books...

You might find details on Amazon. Or check the publisher's catalogue...

I think it's more than likely that there will be at least one more, maybe with more of a focus on Anouk and/or Rosette. But Vianne has been in my life a long time. I doubt she'll leave forever.
Joanne Harris
There will be, yes: but I don't have a title just yet...

I was a teacher for 15 years, 12 of them in a boys' grammar school...

Hi Chris, I don't make films. I leave that to other people... :-) x

I rarely ever do know: I write the stories that come to me. Sometimes it takes years for me to know what my characters will do next: sometimes I never find out at all. And I know that, in stories as in life, here are as many beginnings as endings...
Joanne Harris
Yes, they are. This is a Goodreads issue, however, and not one that I can fix...
Joanne Harris
Not really: but every time I sit down to write, I just read the passage I wrote the previous day aloud. It helps me get back into the voice.
Joanne Harris
Not just one, no: but my first love was Ray Bradbury...
