1. I think you have to decide for yourself what was in the box (that's the mystery:-)
2. No, I don't think anyone is wholly devoid of love, but Zozie is incapable of putting another person's needs before her own.
3. It wouldn't work out unless one of them changed her nature fundamentally (and I'm not sure that's possible).

I was wondering if Gentlemen and Players has been translated into French? I've searched and have only managed to find two that have been, neither of which are Gentlemen and Players. I love all your books (this one being my absolute favourite, all my hats off to you!) and have found myself desperately wanting to recommend it to friends...most of whom are French!
