You can actually skip Pinbal 1974 and Hear The Wind Sing (apparently they are pretty rare to stumble upon but definitely read them if you can, a sort of prelude to the final two books), but I'd say you should read A Wild Sheep Chase to understand the storyline of Dance Dance Dance properly.

I highly recommend reading A Wild Sheep Chase first because it is the origin of the sheep man.

I would read them in order if I were you. Hear the Wind Sing, and Pinball 1973 were short and well done, I preferred Hear the Wind Sing, his first novel. They aren't too long and read quickly so it's worth it reading before the others. It's harder to find Wind and Pinball in book form, but you can easily get them on e-reader versions

I didn't read A Wild Sheep Chase before reading Dance Dance Dance and DDD is one of my favorite books of all time. There's a few things that would make more sense (one character in particular) if you read them in order, but in my opinion, you can still enjoy DDD without first reading AWSC.
I'll qualify this with the following: if you don't mind waiting and you can get your hands easily on A Wild Sheep Chase, you should definitely read them in order, because while you can enjoy DDD without first reading AWSC, you'll definitely have a better time reading them in order. Plus, any reason to read more Murakami is a good reason.

By now you've surely read it:) I went in without prior reads -- I also do the audio not the eyeball... still enjoyable weirdness.
