There's a few things that would make more sense (one character in particular) if you read them in order, but in my opinion, you can still enjoy DDD without first reading AWSC.

I'll qualify this with the following: if you don't mind waiting and you can get your hands easily on A Wild Sheep Chase, you should definitely read them in order, because while you can enjoy DDD without first reading AWSC, you'll definitely have a better time reading them in order. Plus, any reason to read more Murakami is a good reason. (less)
