Just finished the trilogy last night. Still in that depressed mode that I get after finishing a great series. Looking forward to that Pyrre standalone though! Anyway, my question: what race and culture were Annurians based on?

Brian Staveley Glad you enjoyed the story Riki! The Annurians aren't based on any single real-world culture. I drew on elements of various empires in their creation, including China, Rome, the Mauryan Empire of India, etc. I wanted an empire large enough to incorporate many cultures, a cosmopolitan civic structure based at least as much on trade as on military conquest.

Why couldn’t you have gotten “The Empire’s Ruin” published 7/02 instead of 7/06 so I could have spent my 3-day weekend devouring it? Kidding, but just realized I have no idea if authors have any input on the exact publication dates of their books (beyond when one submits a final draft). Do you? I loved “Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne” & can’t wait to buy this book on July 6 and start reading, work be damned!
