As far as recent books I've enjoyed, I was blown away by Guy Gavriel Kay's The Last Light of the Sun (not a new book, but new to me). Another older book that I love, one that most people seem to have missed, is Helen DeWitt's The Last Samurai (no relation to the Tom Cruise movie); this isn't fantasy tho -- it's a great coming-of-age tale set in London. City of Stairs was also an interesting fantasy, well worth a look. Have you read any of these?
