Jeremy Gifford Yes there was a movie made in 2005 which in my opinion was no where close to the book except maybe a few things here and there. There was also a made for TV version made in 1981 from the BBC, The TV version was low budget and did not have the "Great" special effects that we expect now-days but the series followed the book quite closely far more then the movie did! if you can look past the bad effects it was better then the 2005 movie version by far but yet this is only my opinion :)

Merve douglas adams wrote the screenplay for the movie too. it is related but not the same. the movie is very good but the book is beyond that.

ps: it was created as a radio show in the late 70s. then there were books, tv adaptation and the movie

Imbunche Yes, there is. It was made in 2005, but it's rather loosely based on the book and definitely not as good.

Jessica Turner The movie totally sucked! Although the 1981 BBC mini-series was well worth a watch if you can find it.

Book Power There is and it's a hoot. :) Hitchiker's Guide was originally a BBC radio play.
Then Douglas wrote the books and completely changed the ending.
Then he wrote the screenplay for the movie and changed the story again.
I enjoy every iteration, it's lovely to have such well thought out madness in the world.

Connor Holmes I'm super late to this party, but check out the BBC miniseries from a few decades ago. Corny, low budget, bad audio and effects, but so much fun. Cheers.
