I agree whole-heartedly about the 1981 version. I actually watched it...and yes, I had read 3 of the books by then. Let me throw this in as well...for those willing to explore further...there's more!
2005 version was a huge disappointment. The BBC TV one was great and really felt like a visual rep for the books. It's what got me interested in the books.
