Diane asked Will Schwalbe:

I'm butting in here Mr Schwalbe. I love Y/A literature and used to teach 7th/8th grade. My all-time favorites are The Book Thief (Zusak), The Giver (Lois Lowry) and Dandelion Wine (Ray Bradbury). Recent things I've enjoyed are I'll Give You The Sun (Jandy Nelson), The Fault in Our Stars (John Green) and Secret Wisdom of the Earth (Scotton). Have you read those?

Will Schwalbe So delighted to see your reply. Dandelion Wine is one of my favorite books ever. It's just breathtaking. I loved The Book Thief. And I liked The Giver a great deal, but it's odd to read it AFTER reading so many of the books it inspired. It has been so imitated that reading it almost feels like deja vu, which of course isn't fair to it at all. It is a marvelous book. I loved I'll Give You The Sun -- and The Fault in Our Stars. But I have not yet read Secret Wisdom of the Earth. Since we share the same feelings about the other books you listed, I'm DEFINITELY adding this one to the list. Thank you!
